Hes a blue chip on the musical stock market.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Lover which happens to be his birth name migrated to the West Coast at the age of 10 and immediately fell in love with hip-hop culture. After listening to Old School artists like Run DMC and watching such classic hip-hop flicks as Breakin and Krush Groove, he began penning rhymes of his own. Returning to his childhood home in 1993, Lover originally felt cut off from the urban culture but found a spark of realness when he linked up with a group of brothers in Hawaii that were into hip-hop just as much as he was. They spent the next decade traveling the world and perfecting their musical skills. The end result is Lovers highly anticipated debut album Diamond.
Spending the past year-and-a-half sculpting the project, Lover pours every ounce of his energy into each action packed verse. Friends describe his style as a loose knit combination of LL Cool J, 2 Live Crew and Nas all wrapped into one. Inspired by his current Las Vegas stomping grounds, as well as his days running the streets of Waikiki, the Diamonds content tends to revolve around the affluent lifestyles of the rich and famous. While many MCs in this day and age fabricate stories and reenact their favorite movies, this man has lived the dream and come to tell the world about it. But deeper down, his visions are much broader. I enjoy making people dance and feel good through my music, Lover explains. But at the same time, I come from a spiritually enlightened and well educated background, so you can expect more than just pop tunes. For now though, Im just focused on entertaining the people.
With 17 blazin tracks and an extremely precise flow, the 25-year-old MC is sure to reach his goal of stacking chips and appealing to the masses. On the club banger All Night for example, Lover targets the often over-looked European market as he sprinkles his bars with British lingo. And his lead single Rock Steady, which features the silky smooth vocals of Virginian songbird April Weller, has enough soulful swagger to find its way on radio play lists nationwide. But Lover doesnt rely solely on his charming good looks. The budding superstar plays double duty as MC and producer on the rock-tinged Its Going Down, where he lets the ladies know just how it goes down when spending a night out on the town. His other creative outlets include songwriting and fashion. I do custom tailoring and design handbags and accessories for women, reveals Lover. I look to be doing the kind of things that P. Diddy, Master P and Russell Simmons are doing with their careers and branching out into other fields of business. Mainly entertainment, fashion and technology.
After 10 years struggling as an aspiring artist, and performing around the world at such events as the 2002 Bob Marley Festival in Miami and the House of Blues in Las Vegas, Lover has paid his dues and is ready to make his presence felt in the music industry. Looking to release Diamond at the beginning of the next quarter, Lovers family company the Abyss Media Group, Inc. is on its way to having a promising future in the entertainment business.
My music is a collection of feelings put to the rhythm. I go out in the clubs and in the streets and feed off the vibes of the people. Then I put my two cents in, says Lover. Sometimes I make hits. Sometimes I make classics. But no matter what kind of song Im doing, I just try to polish it and make it as perfect as it can be. In my opinion, good music is one of the only perfect things I know of in this world.
