Steve Sevek is a songwriter of mostly country and blues songs. He does not sing or play on any of his songs. They have all been produced by demo services that make demos of songs for songwriters. Steve owns the copyright to the words, music and sound recordings of all songs that may be posted here.
Steve started writing songs in 1989 at the age of 42. Steve does not sing or play a musical instrument (unless the bass drum counts?). So how does someone who doesn't play an instrument go about writing songs? Well, in Steve's case it happened like this: One day while going through some bad times and while listening to a Bob Dylan song with abstract lyrics the mood of the song fit Steve's mood to such a degree it inspired him to write his own words to that song's melody. The result was a song that was 11 verses long that could be sung to the same melody of the Dylan song. As time went on, Steve continued writing but writing only lyrics that didn't go with any melody. After, failing to find someone to put his lyrics to melodies, Steve started finding melodies to his own lyrics. This was done by finding a beat or tempo of another song that Steve's lyrics could be sung to. Steve would then sing his song onto a tape without music and send that tape to a demo studio to have a demo made. Sometimes the result was just as he envisioned it and at other times it turned out quite different. But that's how Steve got started.
No. I write. I don't perform.
I don't like hip hop or acid rock. I'm a big Dylan fan but like his softer material best. I also like Townes Van Zandt and Jack Tannehill. My favorite song is Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down". I find it easier to write country or blues than anything else. I don't care for the modern country on today's country stations but favor the old country, traditional or true country, if you will; Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Jim Reeves, Johnny Horton etc. I would guess that all these and others would be my influences since you listen to what you like and you are influenced by what you listen to.
My computer. Although I have written songs on scrap pieces of lumber.
Besides writing songs Steve has also released a compilation CD called, THINKING ABOUT BOB DYLAN, which is also available at www.CDBaby.com/BobDylan. THINKING ABOUT BOB DYLAN contains 12 songs by 6 different singer/songwriters. The artists on the CD were handpicked by Steve and each of them perform one Bob Dylan song plus one song of their own. If you like Bob Dylan and if you collect Dylan songs by other artists be sure to check it out. A second CD was released which is also a tribute to Bob Dylan and is called IF NOT FOR YOU - A TRIBUTE TO BOB DYLAN and is also available at CD Baby as well as Amazon and digitally at most digital music services.
