You seem to imply that you are "down" on this song, ie that it is not surf rock enough. For a song to qualify as surf rock it doesn't have to have a driving four four beat with tons of reverb. There are many kinds of surf as in there are many kinds of waves to ride. Not all are the hard driving monsters of the North Shore, but all are good ! After all, Marty Balin's ballads were considered to be as much 'psychodelic' as the rest of the Jefferson Airplane's tunes on their albums. As for the Latin beat, it reminds me more of cool Brazilian jazz. This tune reminds me of the swells that would come in over the kelp beds and just be pure glass as they came onto the beach where you are sitting with a friend and enjoying the company, watching Mother Ocean send these natural jewels to us for our viewing pleasure. It may not be 60s Surf Rock in the genre of 'Wipe Out' but it is a surf tune and you did get it.
