Talent, creativity, natural ability, star attributes, and charisma are words that "could" describe most people. When it comes to Jovantae Johnson, those words seem like an understatement. Born in Racine, Wisconsin in November of 1986 VT, (as he likes to be called) was destined for the artistic side of life. He had a pretty rough but happy childhood having lived in some of the worst areas of his hometown and never consistently attending any one school. He heard his calling to music at the young age of 9 years old. At the time it wasn't anything he wanted to make a career out of or sacrifice his time for. But now almost 15 years later if asked, he will assure you that music is where his heart is (besides being a practitioner of jiu-jitsu and his children).
To give you an idea of what kind of man VT is keep reading. He attended Mitchell Middle school where he ran cross country his 8th grade year and found his love for track. At the same time he was involved in an after school program named the Racine Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) that assisted young boys with growing into positive strong men. He also is a part of the RYLA's Alumni Association and was a member of the NAACP youth council's Racine chapter under his advisor Clara Grays who was his principle at Mitchel Middle school. He is a graduate of Washington Park High School where he was on the varsity track team and was a state qualifier and letter earner. Upon graduating high school he had plans to join the military and exactly one week later he joined the Wisconsin Army National guard which he is still a member of. He has two overseas tours under his belt (convoy security in Kuwait and Iraq) and has over 15 medals and ribbons to decorate his military dress uniform. Currently he attends Gateway Technical College in Racine, and Grantham University in St. Louis, Missouri where he takes online classes. His other hobbies include mixed martial arts, public speaking, arts and crafts, and constructing things for his children.
VT has a plethora of features seeing as he likes collaborative projects mostly and has no full length solo projects. He has one studio album entitled "The Introduction" which he made with his great friend Marcus Hart. He is featured on two mixtapes by bandmates that are slated for 2012 releases, and he has his first full length solo project titled "Don't Remember Me" which is the second part to a project he's currently working on called "Remember Me" He takes great pride in his music and projects and spends literally years perfecting them while promoting and managing among other things in the meantime. When asked about his influences and who inspired him to make music these were his exact words "I can't think of any one artist or group or musical figure that inspires me more than the next. I am simply inspired by art and sound!"
VT has a sound like no other and he decided to join a popular and talented crew named UTMOS INC. (UniversalThinking MindsOfSound). The group was started by his childhood friend Archie D. Morgan II who inspired him to write his first song and gave him the moniker he uses. If you love VT then you will love UTMOS INC. and vice versa. It's a unique team which creates unique high quality music. You don't have to take these words as truth. It would be easier to pull up your search engine and type UTMOS. For your listening pleasure I suggest that you lend your ears and mind to the music created by VT and his fellow band mates. Now you have the secret to where great music has been hiding. Go find it.
