The Product a 24 year old Emcee hailing from the streets of California is an artist whom is focused on bringing West Coast Hip-Hop back to mainstream. Known for his hard hitting punchlines and his flashy swagger, this Pomona resident is definitely an emcee to watch out for. The Product real name Sean Pietersz also goes by the name of Lil Cyph. Who has been rapping since his early high school days. Once part of the group H2O (Hard 2 Oppose), The Product split with cousin J-Reel and formed the group which is now known as The Streets. The Product is determined to put his city of Pomona on the map. "My city really ain't known for its hip-hop. I'm trying to show the world that theres real talent down here. People know my city for gangs, drugs, pimping and prostitution, but they dont see the talent out here. We got Suga Free and a couple other artist over here, but there not known for there lyrics." The Product is trying to shine a new light on the West Coast, by bringing real lyrics and music back to hip-hop. Not your average rapper The Product and cousin J-Reel have been on a constant grind to get their music out since their younger days. In November of 2005, they released their first real mixtape. The Streets (The Product and J-Reel) pressed up over 1,500 copies of their mixtape on their own, and hit the streets of Southern California to pass out their cd for free. The Product says, "We wanted to get our name out, and show everyone that we can do this. Hip-hop is our life and to be heard we would do just about anything! Thats why we did this mixtape and handed it out for free; we werent concerned with the money." The Streets mixtape contained over 30 tracks including a couple original tracks off The Products upcoming album entitled Ain't Nuttin to Play Wit. The feedback they received was remarkable; it was so great that The Product decided he wanted his music to be heard across the globe. In doing so he created a music page on the website Myspace.com, and instantly started receiving emails from fans all over the United States, even a few from out of the country. The Product stated, a couple of days after I had the page up, "I remember I got and email from this dude in England. He said he was loving my music and wanted me to ship him out a copy of the mixtape. The feeling I felt after reading that message really motivated me to keep doing my music. I would have never knew people outta the US would be feeling my music like that." The Product that comes from a mixed background is very proud of his roots and family. It was hard growing up not knowing what race I was, so it was hard for me to associate with people. I come from a Dutch and Sri Lankan background, not your average mixture. Reflecting on his hertiage The Product remarks, "But thanks to this Hip-hop music I was able to see pass race and be myself. I love my country and where my parents come from. So you will definitely here and feel where I came from." The Product has done a few local shows and also has performed in the past in Fresno, California for the Coca-Cola Are You the One? Contest. Eight groups were chosen out of thousands, The Product's group was one of them. Although they did not place first, it was a great experience for the young Emcee.
