The Artist. Redd Lettaz seeks to express urgency and joy of Christ likeness to the culture from which he arose--hip-hop. Although he anticipates and continues to generate mass appeal with his simple yet cutting lyrics and creative production, Lettaz hopes to make his target audience aware of the truth: all this generation sees is images that magnify selfishness when the key to life is really selflessness. The Person. Redd Lettaz was born 24 years ago Courtney Kelly in Chicago, Illinois where he has spent the majority of his life. He found his talent as a rapper early in life, free styling by the age of ten. Thus, Ten tha Childish became the moniker he would carry throughout his adolescent and teenage years. No stranger to the inner and outer struggles that plague so many of the youth entrenched in the hip-hop culture, his gift became his means of venting his fears, frustrations, bitterness, and hopes--all while leaving crowds in awe at his mature lyrical skill or in stitches from his off-beat and witty punch-lines (hence the Childish addition to his name). Over the years, he has been compared to the likes of Eminem, Can-I-bus, Busta Rhymes, Keith Murray, and more recently Kanye West. By the age of 22, Ten had recorded two underground albums and numerous mixtapes as a solo artist and as part of the Chicago-based First Team camp. He also held his own in the battle-rap arena, winning more than his fair share of competitions, if not ranking high or receiving honorable mention. But God had bigger plans for this mouthpiece. The Name. One October night in 2004, as the result of years of biblical teaching from an old chapter in his life, sleepless nights, and undeniable confirmations, Courtney Kelly surrendered to Gods will in the middle of his living room where he received an assurance and commission from God to represent Him to those whom Ten represented: the young, confused, broken and abused who have a love for this thing called hip-hop. The End of Ten Outro on his newly recorded Christlike (Seriously) is a farewell to Ten tha Childish. The term Red Letters as a rap name came from a years-old pact Ten made with God as a teenThe street spelling--Redd Lettaz--was a creative personal touch. The name and his first recorded album under it Christlike (Seriously) is a symbol of the new artist as a Christian who did not lose his uniqueness and identity, but found it in Christ. He still employs light-hearted and playful overtures in his material but now with a message of healing, repentance, and worship. The Mission. Redd Lettaz is just the beginning of a campaign to make God as visible as possible in hip-hop and the world. The plan includes deliverance ministry, recreation venues for those looking to enjoy themselves in a godly atmosphere, housing projects for disadvantaged and displaced individuals, clothing line, record label, production company and more. I feel like they box Christ or show him in the same light as Santa Claus, these ideas and gifts he has given me my seem radical but so was he and deserves to be seen as he is through these outlets hes given me . Redd Lettaz is covered by and accountable to Beyond Kingdom Ministries in Aurora, Illinois and Refiners Fire Ministries Lisle, IL. He continues to reside in Illinois with extended family and is currently engaged.
