Mix electronic and instrumental music with some acoustic instruments.
Near Death Experience is one of those bands which have played a big part in the history of french independent rock. Today, though, few people can recall only three songs of their's, even though they have toured for several years and they have been reviewed in many of the most famous french music magazines.
The band was born in 1991 in Orléans (100 kilometres from the south of Paris). The first songs they wrote were a new kind of fusion stemming from their various influences.Between 1991 and 1993, the band appeared on three compilations, (including two international ones), one split EP, and a 7 inch record.
For NDE, 1993 was a year of mutation: the band saw the arrival of a brand new bassist, whose sound was more overdrived. They also incorporated the use of computers in their compositions. Between 1993 and 1995, the band appeared on one compilation and recorded two 7 inches.
NDE signed a license with the french label Abathrash in 1995 (a division of Boucherie Production) and recorded its' first album (V 3.0) that same year. At this point, the band had clearly chose its way: tortured machines, dark atmospheres, melancholy and distorted tunes with a voice filled with emotion.
After two years, one video, four compilations(one featuring on a compilation tribute to The Cure, "Here's the Real Cure") and one split 7 inch called "Burning Experience"(with the guys from Burning Heads, a french punk rock band), NDE is about to land to the higher spheres of electronic music.
For the second album (V4.1), and for the 12 inch EP (V 4.2) both released in 1998, they have decided to bury the metal/guitar riffs. The result was still a dark sound, but now more industrial and continured to be brighter and hotter, which exploded into electronic fever. Even if the live second album's ends with a jungle song and a techno one, NDE is not a "fevered dance-floor band": they play a brain electronic music.
In 1999, NDE's contract with Abatrash was over. The band conceeded to include more acoustic sounds in its electronic music. A real drum set, with a real-live human drummer, took his rights back and the bass is now less overdrived. They play with other musicians, singers, and all kinds of "noise-makers". Near Death Experience has producing its third album during the last winter.
