Band/artist history
My Threnody was born in 1996 under the name Angelical Grief when Jeff Britto the drummer/vocalist from the Brazilian Doom Metal band Silent Cry left the band. Jeff moved to Boston, US where he kept on composing and writing, despite the fact that he wasn't planning on releasing any of the material.
In 1999 things changed when Jeff recorded a few songs in a cassette and mailed it to his friends and former band mates back home, with a good feed back , Jeff decided to take the project to the next level, formally gave it the name Angelical Grief and started recording material for what he intended to release as the first album.
During the time Jeff was recording the songs for the album, he was still composing new material and a few months later with the album ready, Jeff decided not to release it thinking that the songs in it were not on the same level as the new compositions that were taking shape. The songs that were recorded at that time where never released.
In 2000 Angelical Grief would become My Threnody and the plans for the full length album were put aside for a while because of family.
Now in 2001 Jeff would spend the first few months of the year recording some tracks he had chosen to put out as a demo tape, and in September of that same year is released the first and only demo "Songs for the Sorrowful Souls" containing four songs including the cover "To Walk The Infernal Fields" by the black metal kings Dark Throne. Very few copies of this demo were made and distributed.
Now with time and means to work on it at home, in January 2002 the first album started to take shape and after nine months of hard work the album "An Angel and the Eternal Silence" was released by Avernus Records. The album got some surprisingly good reviews on magazines and webzines around the world.
On January 2003 Jeff started composing new songs for a future new release, in June of that same year he started recording what only got really complete a year later. The second album containing nine brand new tracks and the demo version of "As the Autumn Comes" from the first My Threnody album. The new CD was named "The Dawn of Understanding" and is out now.
Now in 2005 Jeff is in studio composing and recording material for My Threnody's third album.
