From Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, The Sectional is the moniker given to the home recording projects of displaced prairie dweller Gord Phillips. Completely homespun, these experiments defy genres and catagorization; anything from soundscape to psychedelic rock music.
The Sectional was spawned in 1993 upon aquisition of a simple Tascam Porta03 cassette recorder. Churned out 32 albums worth of material from 1993-2000.
Resumed recording in 2005 with computer software, and a whole new cd is moments away.
Just finished up a 12 year stint of roadwork and local shows with dozens of different bands of different ilk. Just catching my breath and doing my first home recordings in 5 years.
Any fearless, innovative composer or performer. Particular favorites would be Syd Barrett, Pete Townshend, Frank Zappa. Also love the noisy stuff; Sonic Youth, Mercury Rev, Silver Apples
Piles of guitars, basses, stuff to hit, a home made theremin, harmonicas, birds, traffic, microphones, and sound samples.
I do not compose with the intent of being a marketable commodity. I am merely an artist, perhaps slightly eccentric, but straightforward. If you enjoy my music, I am sincerely grateful. If not, I am still sincerely grateful. Some get it, some don't.
