I currently play as a solo artist performing fingerstyle instrumentals on acoustic guitar. Most of my songs are played in alternative tunings such as Open D, Open E, Open G and DADGAD.
I started playing live at small clubs and coffeehouses while attending Virginia Tech in the 1980's and later moved to California where I performed professionally in bands throughout the Los Angeles area for over 10 years. I have now returned to my home in Virginia and have gone back to the music I love best - acoustic guitar!
In the past I have played live as a solo act and with bands on both coasts - most notably The Troubadour and many of the famous clubs on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. It was fun but right now I am very happy to be writing and recording solo acoustic guitar songs.
Growing up as a teenager everyone liked the sound of electric guitar and so did I. But when I heard Duane Allman's "Little Martha" and Jimmy Page's acoustic playing, I became hooked on the sounds of acoustic guitar. Probably my biggest influences on acoustic guitar are Jorma Kaukonen and Michael Hedges.
I play Martin and National guitars.
Check out my latest song - Someone Up Above. It features me playing bass along with acoustic guitar and vocals.
