All She Did Was Ask
A grandfather comes to know Jesus as his Savior because of the faith and persistence of his 10-year-old granddaughter.
“I could ignore everyone but Amanda,” Earl said.
Sunday after Sunday as Pastor Rogers invited all those who wanted to be saved to come forward and give their hearts to Jesus, Earl would simply stand there. Yet, each time Amanda would look up at her Papaw and ask, “Papaw, when do you think that you might do that?” Earl’s standard answer was “one of these days.”
On March 25, 2001, Earl could not resist Amanda or the Lord any longer. This time when Amanda looked up at him, he took her hand and they went down the aisle together. Earl Newman gave his heart to Jesus that day.
“I didn’t know how to share the Gospel, but I did know how to ask him to go to church,” Amanda said. “I was scared that I would go to Heaven and he wouldn’t be there.”
Earl has been diagnosed with leukemia. “I have no fear because of my faith,” Earl said. “I know the Lord will take care of me and right now I am doing well.”
Through this experience God has strengthened Amanda’s faith. “I get scared because of the leukemia, but I know that no matter what, I will see Papaw again,” Amanda said.
