I am a singer/songwriter, guitarist, pianist and vocalist from Portland Oregon. My training is actually in jazz trumpet and orchestral conducting, and my background in jazz history, theory and improvisation, but I love dabbling in just about everything musical.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live as a freelance trumpeter in a variety of genres. I did do a few open mic nights with the music that's on this page, but this is more of a hobby for me.
Your musical influences
I borrow bits from artists I admire such as Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, Dishwalla, Dashboard Confessional, Doves, Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket, Tears For Fears, Incubus, U2, Keane, Muse, Richard Ashcroft & The Verve, The Decemberists, Stereophonics, Travis, Tonic, Snow Patrol, Maroon 5, Oasis, John Mayer, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Neil Young, David Bowie, and The Alarm. Artists I have idolized over my 25 years of playing music, that may not necessarily show up in my songs, include: Queen, Rush, The Beatles, The Association, Queensryche, Oingo Boingo, Journey, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, a whole host of 80s metal bands (yeah I know), and various 60s rock, classic jazz, and 70s funk groups. I've also studied lots of classical music in depth, especially Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Debussy and Wagner. OK, just about everything.
What equipment do you use?
All the instruments, vocals, production, etc. were done by me myself and I at home... on the following: Zoom PS-04 Palmtop Studio, Dell Inspiron 600m laptop with n-Track Studio 4.1 and various VST plug-ins, Gibson Les Paul electric guitar, Ibanez electric/acoustic guitar, Yamaha and Kawai keyboards, and an Ibanez SDG bass. I also use my baby, a Stomvi Elite 300 trumpet, on the tunes with horns.
Anything else?
My "album" is entitled "Homemade," but unlike any other album, it's not a fixed entity with 10-12 songs in a particular order. It's also not an "MP3 album" you can download with artwork, where the tracks and the sequencing have still been determined by the artist and/or record company. "Homemade" is an ongoing work-in-progress. It will never end, there will never be a 2nd album, it will never be manufactured and placed in your local store's CD bin. It's an album made up of all my songs, and while they're posted here chronologically, in the order I write and record them, I would leave it up to the listener to choose the sequence that works best for them. I won't make you listen to something you don't like. There is no artwork, save the cheesy little GIF I made to go along with it. "Homemade" is what I made it, at home. And "Homemade" can be whatever you want it make it, in your home.
