The Pioneer Junior College Symphonic band started out at the turn of the millennium with a humble beginning. The pioneering batch faced many challenges, but with the professional help from our resident conductress, Ms Chan Peck Suan, and through sheer hardwork and the passion for music, saw the band slowly grew in strength and standard. On 6th April 2001, the band staged a joint concert in the Victoria Concert Hall with the America's Edina Concert band, a distinguished High School band in Mennesota, USA. Also in 2001, the band took part in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Concert Band (Junior College). Being young and untested, the band managed to clinch a silver award which marks a new milestone for the band. With time and the guidances from Ms Chan, the band see itself as an exuberant clan constantly seeking opportunity and moving towards greater heights.'A Family Towards Musical Excellence' a motto which, at all times, motivate its members and had allowed the band to stand strong throughout the many challenges.
In the year 2005, the band was awarded its first Gold Medal in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Concert Band (Junior College). This great achievement had amplified the band's confident and did the school proud. in December 2005, the band went for its first oversea trip to Hong Kong for a Musical Exchange Programme with two of the colleges there. The trip had not only allowed the band to learn much in terms of musical knowledge, but also allowed for a chance to engage in meaningful interaction and experience. With the continuous hardwork of its delicate members and resident conductress, the band aim for greater achievements in the days to come and look forward to bringing great music to the audiences.
