I am an individual and aspiring artist that likes to fuse the traditional and folkloric sounds of my native Colombia with the modern movements of rock en español.
Band/artist history
My Colombian descent is evident in my music library. I grew up listening primarily to traditional Colombian music, and then some of the Colombian pop scene. Once exposed to the greater rock en español scene, my mind exploded. Having played piano for 7 years, and then picking up the classical guitar for 7 years, I bought my first electric guitar in college and started a band immediately. I work hard to try to cover my favorite artists' work, and come up with original music that reflects both the modern scene and my colombian roots.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Most of my live performances revolve around the Stanford University campus; I play with some friends, we are "Los Novios de Shakira" and we play some covers, originals, and original arrangements.
Your musical influences
A lot of older folkloric music (tangos, vallenatos, cumbias, salsas, merengues, guascas), and the whole modern Latin rock scene. I like everything from Carlos Gardel, Diomedes Diaz, Carlos Vives, Grupo Niche, and Los Visconti to Aterciopelados, Cafe Tacuba, Juanes, Soda Stereo, Enanitos Verdes, Caifanes, Los Prisioneros, Gustavo Santaolalla, and much more than I can name.
What equipment do you use?
I am a fan of my Fender American Telecaster e-guitar.
Anything else?
I am relatively new to the recording scene, and have started a new personal label "Tinto Records" to produce music off my laptop studio. "Tinto" in Colombia stands for coffee, while in varying other places, it stands for wine... I am a great fan of both. This label is for those that can sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee, and/or a nice glass of wine.
