Symphonic

Ngee Ann Polytechnic Concert Band was established in 1983, under the baton of our resident conductor, Mr Yeo Poong Poh. The idea of forming a band was conceived by our 4th principal, Mr. Chen Hung, a noted music lover. The band started off with 20 members and has since developed into an established band of 50 members. The band has to holds 2 public concerts yearly, namely "Pops 'n' Classics" (in campus) and "Rondeau" (off-campus). "Pops 'n' Classics" is held to welcome the freshies who had joined the band in the new academic year while "Rondeau" is held to further strengthen the relationship among the alumni members and the main band members. Rondeau was 1st staged in 1986 in Victoria Concert Hall after the 1st Pops 'n' Classics. The name Rondeau means 'coming around'.In 1988, the band hosted a Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra. It has also participated in the Penang Arts Festival. This 1st musical tour marked the starting point of the band's many expeditions abroad, e.g. Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The band hopes to continue, and take up more of such overseas expeditions in the near future. Besides its annual performances, NP Concert Band performs regularly for NP's student body and the public e.g. NP Open House, Ngee Ann Arts Festival, CCA Fiesta and Singapore Arts Festival-Fringe.
