Band/artist history
Time, the title track of Sarah Beth Keeley's upcoming debut CD is simply about something we all have in common. Time goes forward and whether we like it or not it will tick by, no matter what we do with it. Sarah says, "Although time is universal and has always been there, it is not a song I could've written 5 or 10 years ago. We should all make the best of our sweet time; we never know how long we have. It's never too late; so don't have regrets, only move forward. Self penned in 2003, this song recently received an honourable mention (top 1% - out of over 6000 entries worldwide) in the 4 th Annual CMT/Nashville songwriter's song contest.
Sarah Eliza"beth" was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, into a musical family. Her father played clarinet in Jazz bands, as well as piano, and continues to be involved in music today. Her mother played violin as a youngster, and her grandmother played and taught piano, with some aspirations of her own. Naturally, there was always music playing in the house. According to Sarah Beth's parents, she was singing and showing interest in music by the age of two. By the time she was five, Sarah knew music and singing was her passion, dream, and what she wanted to someday pursue as a career. Sarah's brother says she sometimes drove him crazy with her constant singing around the house, grabbing at anything in sight to sing into.
By the age of 12, Sarah was singing with a school friend and her family's Country band at weddings and private functions. Country music was heavily introduced to her at this time.
Some of Sarah's early influences were everything from Fleetwood Mac, Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker, Pat Benatar, Rod Stewart, Lynnard Skynnard and Alabama. Later favorites and influences have been Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson, Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, and Carolyn Dawn Johnson
Throughout her teenage years, Sarah would write lyrics and put them to melodies, and was always humming something new, sang whenever she could, and was always a little performer. In her early twenties, Sarah met and married her soul mate, Paul. While employed in various jobs, Sarah's musical passions never faded. It was during this time, as fate would have it, Sarah met and worked with a lady by the name of Carolyn Dawn Johnson. Still wanting to pursue music, Sarah remembered how, when she was a youngster, negative comments from people made her feel this life long dream was out of reach. Seeing the soon-to-follow success of this former co-worker gave Sarah Beth the inspiration, motivation and determination she needed, to really take her song writing and dream seriously. It suddenly didn't feel so out of reach. With the support of family, the ball st arted rolling. Sarah taught herself guitar so she could write the music as well as the lyrics, along with singing wherever and whenever she could. In 2000, she started entering song contests and singing contests to get feedback and soon realized the feedback was positive and encouraging.
Sarah recently placed 4 th in both the Chorus Entertainment Rising Country Superstar Contest in Calgary, as well as the 1 st Annual Country Roads Showdown. She continues to sing at many private functions and was recently the entertainment for the well-known Choppers for Charity fundraiser in Calgary to help raise money for the Alberta Children's hospitals, something she wants to continue to be a part of. Sarah also has some upcoming press in the CCMA "source" newsletter, as well as the Country Music News Magazine, in the September 2004 and January 2005 issues. Sarah Beth's CD "TIME" consists solely of Sarah's originals and features some fantastic musicians including CCMA nominated Allison Granger (fiddle), CCMA nominated Greg Derksen (steel, dobro and guitar), Dale Weins (drums), Johanna Sillanpaa (background vocals), Glenn Holden (bass and mandolin) and CCMA member Keith Floen (piano/keyboards).
Emre Unal, who is well known for his mixing/mastering skills, co-produced TIME with Sarah Beth. Emre is an Ampia Award nominee for best original score and was recently signed to work with "Out of Your Mouth" with Zomba/Jive (home of Britney Spears). Emre has done work for CMT, MTV, CBC and the National Film Board. He has also worked with Bruce Fairburn, Bob Rock, Dann Lanois (Midnight Oil and Tragically Hip) and Jimmy Page. His work with CMT consists of post-production on several 1-hour live specials, including Terri Clark, Paul Brandt, Patricia Conroy and Prairie Oyster, among others. Sarah Beth's music has an originality all on it's own, yet fits right in with the modern country of today. Sarah has often been compared to Shania Twain along with the similar soul of Sheryl Crow and Julie Roberts. Now with her first single 'Sometimes Love' out to Radio, all of her dedication, perseverance, talents and hard work, 2005 is off to a GREAT start and will hopefully be SBK's year.
