"When crafting an explosive sound, a top notch hard rock band, it doesn't hurt to start with elements of some of the greatest bands of current day radio; so with a vocalist who's as strikingly powerful as Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle, and with an aggressive musical drive closer to Staind, Waking kicks these elements into high gear and has unleashed an album of stop-what-you're-doing-who-th caliber. If you're the slightest fan of modern hard rock, this is the next band you need to check out- you owe it to your sense of taste!" -CD Baby
Band/artist history
In an effort to promote the conscious exploration of self, WAKING speaks to the hearts and minds of its audiences through aggressive hard rock riffs, dynamic musical composition, and a strong melodic sense. Though their sound can be compared to modern rock greats such as A Perfect Circle and Staind, the band’s sound is unique and speaks to audiences who crave moving and intelligent music. Drawing influences and inspiration from great bands like U2, Smashing Pumpkins, and Depeche Mode, Waking has created a distinct sound that is uniquely their own. Formed in 2000 by guitarist J.P. and lead vocalist Perf, Waking has become a permanent fixture in the local NYC/NJ circuit for over half a decade. Their powerful live performance has allowed Waking to build a considerable local fan base, forging a sound and identity that has enabled them to sell out many prestigious clubs (CBGB, Maxwell’s). In that time, and without former representation from a record label, the band has managed to write, self-produce, and distribute thousands of copies of their first album, The Maze. To date, the band has just recently opened for a national act, Clutch, at the Starland Ballroom in NJ. They were also featured on the 2006 September issue of No Cover magazine and Groupies Suck Vol. 8 compilation. Drawn from real life events, their debut album, The Maze, chronicles the band’s darker side, each song painting a story of love, anguish, tragedy and transcendence. Inspired by the loss a family member, the album is driven by heavy guitar riffs and sharp rhythmic precision, yet the album’s most notable quality lies in the elegance guided by the passionate vocalization and melodies of lead singer Perf. Recorded at Big Blue Meenie Studios in Jersey City, NJ, guitarist J.P. worked along side producer Jay Canter (Thursday, Sick Of It All) to define the sound that would become the band's auditory vision realized. In 2007 the band announced plans to write and record the follow-up album to The Maze. With musical collaborations from bassist Ray Greico, (formally of New London Fire) combined with the heartfelt and energetic drumming of Dann LeMunyan, Waking will demonstrate an even more profound level of songwriting and musicianship. The band’s plans for 2007 also include solicitation for formal representation and performing at larger venues throughout the north east coast. Whether a fan or industry representative, Waking is a band worth keeping your eye on. For more information on Waking, please send all inquiries to Waking@waking.tv and for booking, Booking@waking.tv.
