Scythian (pronounced "sith-ee-yin") is a young Celtic band of four "twenty-somethings" based out of the D.C./Metro area. They are a charismatic group of friends known for their high-energy shows whose music ranges from traditional folk to Celtic rock, with strains of gypsy and Klezmer in between. Led by a pair of young raging fiddlers, Scythian brings a passion and energy that makes them unpredictable, spontaneous and contagiously festive. With a great respect and admiration for the traditional - the foundation of their music - Scythian is nevertheless not afraid to wink at convention in search of a little fun, lending them an appeal to young and old alike. Band/artist history
Scythian started out as a bunch of street performers out to make a couple of bucks for gas money. They went from playing in the streets of Alexandria to one of DC's hottest bands. You can read all about it in the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A42508-2004Aug5.html)
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We gig 3 times a week in DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia areas. Every Thursday at Fado Irish Pub (DC) across from Chinatown. 3 Special moments were 1) appearing as extras in M. Night Shyamalan's thriller - "The Village", 2) being booked by MTV to play in their "Real World Philly" party bar, 3) getting a full page write up in the Washington Post Weekend section and being dubbed "one of Washington's most energetic and eclectic bands".
