As a result of many years performing at various venues, different types of music, and collaborating with different musicians, one develops a particular sound and/or feeling. Be it Salsa, Calypso, Rock, its that sound that freely plays in your head depending on your mood. With this project I am going solo in an attempt to communicate that vibe utilizing my bass as the foundation to mix in and come up with a Caribbean Latin Jazz sound with hints of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms.
I enjoy any live venue, the bigger the crowd the better. I moved from New Orleans four years ago & live in Pembroke Pines, in South Florida, and have since performed live in numerous places in the Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach and, Miami area.
My music background and experience comes from performing 70-80s Latin music of Tito Puente, Santana, Ray Barretto, and Poncho Sanchez, which include rhythms such as salsa, merengue, bolero, jazz, and Bossa Nova (Carlos Antonio Jobim). Ive played keyboards, percussion (bongos), and but mostly the bass. I love Blues, Jazz, Motown, and have even played Bluegrass for virtually all of 1981 live shows. Some of my favorite musicians are Paul McCartney, Marcus Miller, Sting, Verne White, Sal Cuevas, Bobby Valentin, Ruben Blades, Grover Washington.
My primary instrument is the bass. When I perform live I usually take my Fender Jazz Bass. At small cozy venues and for recording I prefer my P-Bass. I also have two acoustic basses, a Carlos Robelli acoustic/semi-electric bass and a double-bass (full upright). I utilize my Fender Frontman amp for recording and rehearsals and for live performances a Gallien-Krueger 400RB210 & 115SBX cab.
My humble recording studio consists of a Korg D1600 multitrack recorder, monitors, etc, a general-purpose multi-voice keyboard, Latin Percussion (LP) congas, and other small percussion instruments. Other than an occasional use of a Boss drum machine, I have not used computers for my music because I really want to feel and actually perform each piece.
