Playing has been a hobby for me since I was 10 years old. I never really became serious about playing until I was in college studying electronics and computer technology. Something went haywire within me. All I wanted to do was play guitar. I realized finishing school was more practical. So here I am mainly playing for fun. I guess that's what it's really all about. Having fun.
I also like to teach. One can also learn a lot from teaching. It works both ways. Teaching privately is an art. Every individual is different with different needs, strengths, and weaknesses.
There's really no official band. Someone gets hired for a gig. They put together a couple guys and we play for a night or two.
I sit in with friends once in awhile and play at jam sessions. I remember the first time I played on stage with a quartet. I was really nervous. Once the music started going, the nervous vibe diminished. I was having a blast. Two of the guys from the quartet are still my best friends 20 years later. So I guess I didn't do too bad. Now I play an occasional gig here and there.
I grew up listening to Pop, R&B, and Rock. I started listening to groups like the Crusaders, Grover Washington in high school. I started listening to guys like Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis and Barney Kessell in college.
