Sheffield hiphop MC representing the city of steel and the rest of the UK!
It's The Sheff!!!
Born Ben Joseph Wheeler in Sheffield (England) on the 17th February 1987, Nem moved to Kingston-Upon-Thames Surrey halfway through his first year at Abbeydale Grange Secondary school at the age of 12 after his parents divorced. It was while living in Kingston that Nem started to get influenced by hiphop which within a year would become the only music genre he would listen to. After a year and a half in Kingston he moved to Pavia in the north of Italy with his sister, mother and her boyfriend where he became almost obsessed with rap music and started to learn famous rappers songs. By the age of 15 he was bilingual and had moved again to another town in Italy called Arezzo, near Florence, where he began to write his own rhymes and make beats using computer software. Here he met Federico Frappi aka DJ FedeX & Valerio Stuart aka The Great One who were also into hiphop.
Pursuing their passion together they founded www.FDXrecords.com and began to record their first songs in November 2004 giving birth to Nem & DJ FedeXs collaboration mixtapes Straight From The Garage & First Impact on the latter of which The Great One featured. Nem went on to record the Counter Strike mixtape which featured MC D-Lux from Derby and Itchy Trigger Finger from the London based hiphop crew Hammer Squad. Summer 2005 was when everything suddenly picked up pace
Nem returned to Sheffield for a month and saw his childhood friend Sam Cassiday aka Dr Cryptic who was getting heavily involved with the Sheffield grime scene. Nem got inspired by Cryptic and decided to take his music career more seriously and began to write and record even more, intent on improving and making a name for himself. He got in touch with Tom Mr Exclusive Lav & Venomous of the Studio Drunks towards the end of 2005 with whom he stayed in close contact. Tom helped him a lot with publicity while Venomous would guide Nem to help him find his style and Nem recorded the Testing 2-0-0-6 considering it the start of his career and then started to record the Delivery Guaranteed mixtape in February 2006 which he finished in June at The Studio Drunks studio to then release it on Sheffield streets in July.
The mixtape featured Venomous among others such as Yezza, a Rotherham/Sheffield rapper, who would reveal himself to be very important for Nem. He stepped up his advertising and rapping capabilities and spent the summer of 2006 recording and performing to eventually meet Vex One, a University student at Hallam university, who had a home studio where he recorded and made beats.
Nem, Yezza & Vex One formed a sort of team, working together on songs but didnt officially give birth to a rap crew. Yezza already had a foothold in the local rap scene which he used to help Nem & Vex One
Nem & Vex One recorded a mixtape with Joe Davies called Beat Thieves 2006 using famous beats set to be released in October 2006 Currently Nem is working on a follow up to Delivery Guaranteed which will be his first professional CD and will feature names such as Yezza, Vex One, Uncle Bungle and other talent from around Sheffield as well as The Studio Drunks. Expect it to be on road and online summer 2007 including production from Sheffields finest DJ Risco, Uncle Bungle, Vex One, Dr Cryptic, W7F and DJ FedeX.
