John started playing guitar at the age of 8 and by the time he was 10 he was already in bands playing Lead/Rythm Guitar, Drums, Bass, keyboards, and doing both lead and background vocals. The Bands covered songs by The Beatles,Rolling Stones,The Beach Boys,Little Richard, and Chuck Berry, just to name a few. In addition to performing covers, original material was co-written by John and other group members and performed at gigs. At the age of 14, a group that John was in, was signed with a record label for a one song Recording Contract. The concept of the LP was to cover many of the songs of "The British Invasion". Some of the songs that other signed groups recorded were:
"Glad All Over"(The Dave Clark 5)
"Ferry Cross The MercyY"(Jerry and The Pacemakers)
"Satisfaction"(The Rolling Stones)
John's group covered
"I Want to Hold Your Hand"(The Beatles)
