Cole, a prolific singer/songwriter, wasnt always so driven to succeed. After a youth full of sirens and suspensions, Cole decided to pull himself together and focus his energy on something legal; Singing and Songwriting. Thus his need for an adrenalin rush has been redirected into writing and performing his music. Cole has performed at venues such as Massey Hall, Club 279, The Hershey Centre, Skydome and showcased in high profile festivals such as North by Northeast (NXNE) and Canadian Music Week (CMW). After 5 years of performing and writing for two bands, "By Permit Only" and "Heed", there are two full albums added to his songwriting lineage. Cole, as a soloist, now has a powerful drive for success in his chosen profession and is at his best when entertaining. In terms of formal musical education, Cole started guitar lessons at the age of 7 and now holds RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) certificates in theory, piano and voice. Eleanor Calbes, at the highly respected CVS studios in Mississauga, provided his formal voice training.
In 2001, Cole was the recipient of 2nd place in the "Pop" category of the Billboard Songwriters Competition for his song "Lyin". In 2003 he was runner up in the International Songwriting Competition with his song Say Something. Say Something was also featured on Definitely Not the Opera on CBC radio nationwide. For Cole, songwriting is second nature and his gift for melody and lyrics was described in 2003 by Juno-Nominated Alan Frew of Glass Tiger fame: Its very intricate and mature for an 18 year old he said. Its also very clever.
