Hi, Thanks for visiting my music page. The tracks here are rough mixes from my upcoming CD "Somewhereville". Most people would know me from the band "Royal Crown Revue", and if so, this music is going to be a departure from what you've heard me do before. It's a chance for me to stretch both as a musician and composer. This trio consists of myself on guitar, Steve Pandis on Bass and Tim Davies on Drums. Steve Kaplan engineered and mixed. Thanks guys!
Band/artist history
Mark lives in Los Angeles and is the guitarist with the internationally renowned jazz/swing band Royal Crown Revue. (www.rcr.com) Mark tours regularly both in the US and around the world, including Europe and Australia. Mark has performed on many CDs as a side man including the bands Set Em Up Joe, Daves true Story, Michael Andrew and Swingerhead, The Flying Neutrinos, The Tim Davies Big Band, and ofcourse Royal Crown Revue. Mark has played with many luminaries in the industry including Doc Cheatham, Eric Alexander, Vincent Herring and Brian Blade. Mark has opened for Tony Bennett, Sugar Ray and Chris Isaak and played behind a stellar group of singers including Barry Manilow, Michael Feinstein, Jack Jones, Jon Hendricks, Bernadette Peters and Keeley Smith. Mark wrote the song "Mr. Zoot Suit", recorded by The Flying Neutrinos, which appeared in the movie "Blast From The Past" with Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone, and became a popular song during the swing revival in the late 90's. Mark was born in Australia, where he took up guitar and first came into contact with Jazz. He studied with Melbourne Guitarist Bruce Clarke. In 1992 Mark moved to New York City. There he studied with Rodney Jones, Jim Hall, Bucky Pizzarelli , Billy Bauer and Peter Leitch.
Your musical influences
The guitarists that have inspired me most in my life would be Jim Hall, George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Rodney Jones, Bruce Clarke, Herb Ellis, Pat Metheny and Tal Farlow. This list could go on and on, and I know I'm leaving out many people that have made an impact on my playing.
What equipment do you use?
I play a Gibson Super V through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille. The Super V is a hybrid Gibson made with an L5 body and a Super 400 neck. I've had it for 22 years now, and I couldn't imagine life without it.
