Moka formed in 2003 as an all original alt rock project. Drummer / Producer Pete Turok called on old time friends Kellis Parker (lead guitar, vocals) and Darliene Parker (lead Vocals, stage goddess with moves as good as her voice) to relocate from New York City to Seattle to form the band. Bassist Chris Kadin completed the lineup.
Moka is best known for high energy, inspiring live performances, featuring Kellis' (former lead player for Maceo Parker) extended ripping guitar solos and Darliene's sultry moves and powerful yet seductive voice. The band's produced work has been called a splice of the DNA of Lenny Kravitz, No Doubt, and Led Zeppelin, while live shows tend to reflect the more jam based background of drummer Pete Turok with extended breaks, soloing and improvised jams.
The band's songwriting and popular live performances made Moka one of the "most compelling new live acts in Seattle", according to several local club owners.
Our live performances create an incredible space with our fans. It's great to see folks dancing and getting into our music during live shows. It's also the best way to test out new material, and just plain ol' have fun and get expressed...
