BarrelAss was spawned by three morons and a laptop, originally starting as a means to annoy a bland music scene BarrelAss grew from small beginnings to the nine headed circus freak it is today.
Featuring four members of three other local bands, BarrelAss make music that encourages bowel movement.
In short you can laugh at us or with us either way we dont care. Check us out for more of the same superhero circus shit in the future ...
First formed in the summer of 2002 the fledgling Barrelass consisted of Spike, Jody and Mark. The two former mentioned had been experimenting with guitar and vocal hooks on a four track and greasing their minds with hours of listening to the Jerky Boys (this would later provide the name). Meanwhile mark long time good friend of Spike was working on experimental electronic and vocal oddities. Using various studio software and drum loops, with a little guitar thrown in for good measure. Seeing the potential for the combining of the two parts the three became a single entity.
Beats were stolen and chopped from any source available and ideas flowed. No style or subject matter was deemed a no go area and ten tracks rose from the volcanic out pouring. And the three did laugh a guttural booming laugh. For this their creation surely could never be played live by these three alone?
Much time passed and Barrelass sat stewing alone awaiting direction. Was this the end?
Enter Ciro guitarist from Abintra. Having heard the ten-track demo he wanted to be a part of it and talked Barrelass into getting things up and running again, with him on board.
And the search began for a drummer (this could prove difficult, he had to be seriously good) Weasel of Tunguska Butterfly an awesome four piece that we all admired was our man. Would he be willing???
Yeah I'll give it a go if I can fit it in with Tunguska ! (Hell we even had bass demon Sam from Tunguska for one rehearsal). Following the Weasel poaching revelation we were joined by Dan also of Abintra on bass and Jody pulled his brother Nathan multi talented member of Pence Eleven in to the equation. Now would the beast be accepted?
Later additions to the slavering monster came in the form of Chadson of folk band Pooks Hill and finally the feminine touch on keyboards Jezza.
Played live a fair few times. And we love it!
