Subvinyl is a diverse modern rock band that features both a female and male vocalist. A rich mixture of genres can be heard throughout the songwriting and takes the listener on an emotional journey from dark and sultry to hard hitting.Band/artist history
Originally formed in early 1998 under songwriter Tony Gentry's direction as an experimental funk/groove/rock project, Subvinyl quickly gained the attention of Cincinnati legend, Bootsy Collins (James Brown, George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy's Rubber Band), and went on to record four songs under the guidance of Son/Producer Oui-wey Collins (Bootzilla Productions) followed by a fourteen month American tour before undergoing a shift in the lineup and a complete overhaul of the musical direction.
Tony Gentry: "Subvinyl was initially intended as an experimental side-project. I wanted to explore the different genres of music and artists I grew up listening to, and see if I could combine their unique qualities with my own instinctive writing style, which leans more towards rock and blues.
I never intended Subvinyl to be anything more than just an experiment. Even with the small amount of success and exposure I started to gain from the original lineup of Subvinyl, I never really felt comfortable in my skin.
The new lineup and music are much closer to my heart."
Subvinyl has re-emerged stronger than ever with a unique modern rock sound, focused on harmony, melody and a solid rhythm section. The current lineup consists of: lead singer Robyn Bromwell, songwriter/guitarists/lead vocalists Tony Gentry, drummer Chad Wehrman, guitarist Travis Cannon, and bassist Dixon Creasey.
"At first glance, the history of Subvinyl is seemingly typical of many bands profiled on VH1's hit show Behind the Music: Rock group works for years to make it, only to break up once the group finally nears success. Instead of fading away, however, this story has the group reforming stronger than ever with a new EP and album in the works."

"These Cincinnati rock-poppers align themselves with the sweet-yet-sassy stylings of Sheryl Crow or Jewel, but their acoustic-guitar-based tunes and swooping harmonies can recall everyone from the Indigo Girls to New Orleans zydeco. Whatever style they happen to be pursuing, there's a delicious dark side to every able melody."

Silhouette sounds fantastic. The female vocals in the middle kind of suckerpunch you, since you're not expecting them.
