The Afterlife is a Chicago based art production system created by Kevin L Harris to fill the trench between sensory information and condition or mode of being. The afterlife works to realize this sensory information and present it using various electrical and environmental tools. It is designed with the unique intention of modifying the method by which we digest certain stimuli because it is not the information alone that possesses the potential to fulfill the human condition but, rather it is the way we perceive this information that truly determines its affect. By re-defining human perceptual conventions the individual is free from the naturally evolved modes of interpreting information. By using select information to teach perception specific processes by which to operate, the Afterlife can illicit a prescribed reaction from both the emotional and intellectual facilities of the mind simultaneously, and as a result, it is not only the information which is perceived differently but the very existence of those in contact with it and, in turn, the existence of the world they inhabit. So, for anyone who lingers in that gray area between the poles of chaos and understanding, might we not say, “this afterlife is for you”. Kevin L Harris - 2003
