The band known now as A Tragic Story formed early 2003 as the line-up it stands now with its name. Andrew Brownhill (Vocals) Ross Whitehall (guitar) Michael Tempest (Guitar/Backing Vocals) Christian Collins (Bass) and Ryan Perrens (Drums).
The band originally became an idea late 2002, involving Michael Tempest, Ross Whitehall and Andrew Brownhill. We began putting different musical ideas together, made up of different genre's, we were all a bit unsure, as we were all occupied in other bands that weren't satisfying us for the music we wanted to make.
We became a four piece with various drummers to begin with, we began some of A Tragic Story's tracks that we still play now. Andy was in a band called 'Clay'; they were doing pretty well for themselves at this time, they had recently played the Wulfrun hall, Wolverhampton, Tempo was also in a band called MSD, they were playing venues such a the academy 2 supporting some well known bands, so both were doing okay for themselves.
Shortly after Clay split up, the idea of having Ryan Perrens on drums with our band anyway, before we knew it, the remaining members of Clay were to join the rest of us; this then completed the line up of a five piece band, still as it stands now.
Shortly after, we came up with band name 'A Tragic Story', it stuck immediately really because we all thought it was okay. The music we began to write in the beginning together was quite hardcore/punk with a pop punk feel to it, this didn't really suit the bands tastes as a whole and it soon became more metal influenced, but at the same time more melodic.
The whole takes inspirations from hundreds of different artists, but one that stuck out for all of us I think was Deftones, our band doesn't particularly sound like Deftones too much, but they are probably are biggest influence as a whole collectively. Our music took its path quite easily, we didn't set out to be certain style, we just play what is comfortable to us, we may not be original, we may sound like other bands, we still have our element of our own sound, it sticks out quite distinctively and could reach different fans of different genres of rock music.
Not too long back Michael Tempest departed from his band MSD, as the music and other members did not feel suitable to him anymore, this left ATS's members exclusive to the band. We can really push our boundaries into one band and concentrate more on what we want to get out of our band as a band.
We are currently still writing more and more really cool music for our debut major label sell-out album, I dunno, maybe Warner? HEHE! :P
