Among the many honors that have been bestowed on High Eagle, some of the most noteworthy include Daughters of the American Revolution Medal of Freedom and the Bronze Halo Award, from the Southern California Motion Picture Council for Outstanding Contributions to Humanity, Cherokee Medal of Honor, the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal of Honor, and the Navajo Medal of Honor, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Nixon. He was the founder of the American Indian Science & Engineering Society; chaired the first Native American Awareness Week October 10-16, 1976, which has led to the establishment of American Indian Heritage Month in November; and organizing an international cultural awareness exchange program among native indigenous peoples of the United States and Ecuador in 1986.
