I've done solo for many years. Formed the 3:16 band and did that for about 5 years and then went solo for a year and now I formed Dave Byers and the Ohio River Band and we'll be out this spring/summer.
Yes. I did a lot of fairs and festivals last year and plan to do them again this year. Inside concerts are nice, but there's something about outdoor events I like. Lots of people stroll by who might not of normally heard you.
I am influenced by many styles. I grew up on Lynyrd Skynyrd and the southern rock thing. Bands I was in played southern rock, outlaw country, classic rock and so on. I also love blues music. B.B. King, Etta James and many more. In gospel music I like Stephen Curtis Chapman, Bryan Duncan, old allies and other bands. There's country in my music and I love that Brent Mason (played on Alan Jackson etc.) guitar, Albert Lee style telecaster.
Ahh the ever chase for tone. :-) Currently playing my Eric Clapton strat the most though I also use a Les Paul and tele. I've been using the Line 6 podhd500 for amp sounds. I use cakewalk sonar producer for recording along with Guitar rig, bass podxt, Washburn bass, Korg keyboard to a Roland sound module, AKG mic, TC Helicon vocal processor, yamaha monitors,, roland v-drum kit with toontracks - superior drummer and a Brian Moore guitar to a roland gr-33 sometimes.
