ML Phoenix Is Rising Again LIVE
How did you get together as a band? Started as a recording project with the drummer from my first band, my bassist from my church worship team and my drummer's former co-worker. What is music to you? Oxygen. It is the vehicle by which we minister to others. What is the meaning of the bands name? The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. - John 10:10 New King James Version (NKJV) What is your band to you? Each member can write their own answer A brotherhood, family, ministry and a safe haven. What is your music about and what message do you want to send with it? There is more to life than just the everyday mundane existence. God has a plan and purpose for every single one of us. We write and play to encourage and give hope. What inspires you to make music? Everything. Which musicians or bands have influenced your music? Def Leppard, Queensryche, Boston, Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, Stryper, Skillet, Joe Satriani, Journey... What have you learnt from each other that you didnt know before joining this band? We were brought together for a purpose. That purpose is for each other, our families and the world. What is the feeling during a live show? That connection with the audience is key. They want what we have and we want to do whatever it takes to deliver that to them with every note sung or played, our character and our speech. Everything matters. What do you dream of? Reaching more people. What does it take for a band to get their music heard by a larger audience? Persistence. How do you see the musicians reality nowadays? What could be improved? The music industry has crumbled. We exist outside of it because our purpose isn't about becoming rich and famous or being rock stars. We play to glorify God and establish His Kingdom on earth. What does frustrate you most as a band? Lack of opportunities. We have to fight and scratch for every one, work really hard to prepare and then sometimes deal with a disappointing turnout and/or performance. Do you support your local scene as fans? How? Yes. We watch other bands, play with them and buy their merchandise.
Band/artist history
Megalife is a Christian Rock band from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. The band started off as a studio project but quickly evolved into something more as the chemistry and songwriting of the musicians was undeniably unique. The group just released their first full-length CD "Phoenix Rising." Megalifes vocalist/rhythm guitarist, Len Jennings started writing concepts and material for a unique recording project sometime back in the mid two-thousands. The song sketches started forming while Len still fronting his former group, Smilin Jack Records recording artist, Rock of the Ages (RotA) another well-established regional group. Though the former bandmates seemed interested, the group disbanded before any songs came to life for the project. A few years later, Len discovered his former churchs worship team bassist, Mark Gouras, had an extensive back catalogue of recordings and musical ideas in various stages of completion. They soon decided to combine their musical visions for a new recording project. And thus, Megalife was born. However, the two knew they were going to have to add some other players to really take things to the next level and beyond. Len recruited long-time friend and drummer/percussionist, Aaron Haines, who played with Len in various groups including recording artists Vision and 7 League Boots. They quickly added another guitarist, but he left the group after only a few months. He was replaced by the dexterous and multi-genre player they heard in Steven Flash Gordon. Steve has played in various local groups in the D/FW TX area. When Steve joined, some of the songs were already written while others were still being worked out. But Steve was the perfect fit for the music and the chemistry. Aaron and I go way back since our Army days in Wildflecken, Germany. He is the right drummer and person for this project because of his versatility and chops. He was my first and only choice, honestly. You know, Marks first instrument is drums. He plays and thinks rhythmically along the same lines that Aaron does in many respects. So their chemistry is really a good solid rhythm foundation for us. says Len. Steve really pushes the musical boundaries of this line-up. His nimble-fingered playing styles and haunting tones encourage all of us to journey outside the box as it pertains to the material. Its bigger and better than I ever hoped it would be. I cant wait to unleash these songs on the world!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Many times. It's always great when the audience really responds to what we're doing. It's harder to do in smaller venues with smaller crowds. But even they can be responsive in their own way. It's always awesome when someone comes up to us after a show and tells us how much the music means to them. That's always special.
