Smith was signed at an early age (in the '50s) with Elf Zandan Records, which was formed by a member of the historic "Moonglows ".Subsequent to Smith's "woodshedding" with the big Band ensembles for swing/be-bop,and jazz e.g., Bill Fields, Joe Graham and the Rubies (in the South), Johnny Otis Show, it was the leader of the Moonglows (Harvey Fugua) that 12 years later brought him to Detroit's famed Motown Records , as a bassist for the famed Gladys Knight and the Pips.
Prior,to that,Smith had enjoyed a Great Britain "hit" with the Mighty Del Reys, and as a solo artist.
He went on to play, tour or travel with such as Brenda Holloway,Martha and the Vandellas, Spinners, David Ruffin (shortly after leaving the Temptations), David Clayton Thomas's Second Magnificent Sanctuary Band, (after David's leaving Blood,Sweat,and Tears for a few years), and again, the Johnny Otis Show, before concentrating on "session playing", producing,and "the legal side".Have you performed in front of an audience?(A LAUGH) FORMER MOTOWN MUSICIAN ,AND WITH SUCH ACTS AND DAVID CLAYTON THOMAS, SPINNERS, ORIGINALS, MARTHA AND VANDELLAS, AND JOHNNY OTIS SHOWS, INCLUDING MANY TV ENGAGEMENTS, HOLLYWOOD PALACE, ED SULLIVAN AND MANY OTHERS.
