Raised on the sweet sounds of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and The Staple Singers, Lisa says she
immediately fell in love with Mavis Staples voice. It was like finding myself. Even though I was a young girl, her voice seemed to reflect how I felt deep inside, she says. Lisa's
versatile vocal styling is rooted in the church, where she began singing at age five. She says,
When our choir sang traditional hymns, I would always strive to change the sound and delivery of the song, to make it sound like it had never sounded before.I always wanted to put my own stamp on it.
And Lisa's stamp is what makes her so captivating.
