Maxwell Stud was formed in a jail cell in the aftermath of a bar fight at Tantra Coffee House in San Marcos, Texas in 2007. After minor medical attention and dental work, the participants discovered that they shared not only scarring and stitches, but also a musical interest that was, let's say, not so well defined. The guys paid their fines, hocked everything they owned except their instruments, and formed the band, Maxwell Stud: Miles Basteille on Guitar, Levi Zaz on Bass, and Max Fortune on Drums and vocals. Melodramatic pop is the label most associated with the band, but their music is really a fusion of styles including Progressive Rock, Jazz, Southern Rock, Rap, Blues, and Trip Hop. The first Album, aptly titled Unorthodox, was recorded on the indie CPS label and notably contained the popular and haunting track, Saltdog. Papyrus, Pink Devils, and Face Up in the Guillotine were also popular in the Southeastern US and the boys gained a cult-like following. Haunted followed in 2010, which further expanded the eclectic group's notoriety. Popular tracks were the Reggae Pop-Rock Lost Her on Tuesday, the catchy Pop tune Foxtrot (featuring vocals by Courtney Middlemarch), and the Hard-Rocking Haunting Myself. The band took an extended break after the Haunted tour. During this time, Levi Zaz whereabouts were unknown for almost two years, as he traveled into the jungles of the Amazon on his own personal quest to investigate the crimes of Ruggero Deodato. Miles Basteille moved to France and invested his royalties in a doomed bicycle company. Max Fortune was not publicly heard from at all. Finally, the band re-grouped and returned to the studio in 2014. The result was the diverse third album, Trivium. The Maxwell Stud cult downloaded like crazy and songs like Tick-Tock Man and Charon's Boat drove the band's popularity to new heights. What's next for the band? There are rumors of a 4th album in production. Stay tuned!
