Band/artist history
I’ve been asked many times how Hoot Ride started, where it came from, what is it? You get the idea. I came to the realization that; I honestly have no clue. It’s been so many different projects throughout the past six years of my life. Everything from driving around Oakdale smoking bud, only because we had nowhere else to go, to a record label, a movie, and everything in between. Hoot Ride has always been; my long time friend, Trav and I. I may have had more ambition to make Hoot Ride a reality but without Trav, It wouldn’t be the same. Even as a young kid, I’ve always had the dream of becoming famous. I would make comics with my cousin that we would eventually put on a play for my mother and aunt. Even if it was my cousin under a blanket, playing the creature we called the slime, as they watched how many death scenes we came up with throughout the day and thought was hilarious. I’ve always been a music coinsurer, always had my headphones with me and extra batteries in case my CD player died. This passion for music drove me to want to play guitar, I was given my first guitar very young. It was white and made of plastic; and came with lightning bolt stickers. This inspired me to learn the lyrics to every CD I owned and I would play concerts in my room and play along with any song that played. I was far to shy to sing in front of anyone other than my stuffed animals, so being a rock star was put on the back burners for a while. That didn’t stop me from wanting to be an actor, maybe I was terrified to sing in front of people, but being someone else was a whole new ball game. My cousin Keith and I would sit down and write scripts all days and find ways to make a movie any chance that came to us. As we became older we eventually started making more realistic movies. Keith was never the technical guy, he was always in front of the camera or figuring out our next shot. I on the other hand made sure everything worked, I had the cameras, made all the props and edited all the footage together to make the final cut of the flick. I grew tired of making horror flicks or the occasional war movie. I wanted better footage, something to grab everyone’s attention. I started to film myself attempting stupid stunts that were meant to fail, I fell in love with the CKY movies and wanted to do something like that myself. After showing my crew my funny short movies and making them better and better each time another was released; We decided we were going to make a full length Jackass movie of our own. Spring break was a blur, countless bottles of booze with a whole house empty for a week and Chris the only one old enough to have a license at the time. We made a movie! We were all over Youtube, TV and had a blast doing that. The taste of fame only fueled my addiction. Time passed and the crew faded, I don’t blame them because now that we are older; my body is paying for it now. That didn’t stop me, I continued making my Jackass like moviesNew Years, now 17 years old, I was invited to film a Punk Rock show at the S.O.S. and planned to go home and party after. The ball was just about to drop when I heard amazing melodic thrash core metal coming from the apartment above me. I’ve never once heard my neighbors before this night, I ran upstairs and asked if I could film them. This was the night I met Sixth Sinner and had my first Grain Belt Premium. The following afternoon the lead singer David came down to my apartment and asked if I wanted to hang out, I jumped at the opportunity. For the next two weeks I would wake up, and head to the third floor to listen to them play. Mike and Cory were the guitarist and both of them were beyond incredible and I will still say that until this day. I kept hearing them mention that they wanted to record the songs they wrote, the first thing that came to my mind was taking the video footage from New Years and converting it to an MP3. They were blown away that they finally had a CD of their own to listen to, but there was one problem. The audio sucked. I felt like I let them down somehow, so later that night I read everything I could find online about mixing audio, endless Youtube tutorials on what editing software was the best, and so on, I finally had an understanding on how to record music and what made it sound perfect. In exchange for recording their demo and occasionally inviting them to eat dinner with my mother and I, I was handed down Sally, Mikes old Fender Stratocaster and was being mentored in the ways of metal. A few months went by, fights were now a daily thing between the band member, David migrated into a solo rap album, Sixth Sinner was over. Over the years I’ve kept in contact with David mostly and Cory once in a while, Oddly enough, David and I became really close friends and worked on music and would partake in drug use daily. I started learning about hip hop and fell in love with it immediately. A similar situation occurred when David was hoping to find someone who could make beats for him to rap to. I did the research once again and pirated some professional software and in a months time, I knew the software inside and own and was producing 6-10 songs a day. Another friend of mine, Conor has been a musician for years and had a similar dream of owning his own record label. Countless nights and weekends were spend in the basement that we turned into the most ghetto rigged studio you have ever seen. We decided that we should probably take this more seriously and step it up, and with tax season was just around the corner, Hoot Ride Records was a real possibility and soon a reality. I remember driving to guitar center with a grand discussing what we were going to put into the studio, we spend half the day arguing and comparing, reading, asking questions, until we finally had our set up, ready to go and ready to piece together the studio with quality equipment. We even build a vocal booth and a legitimate area for the producer (me) to work. We did it, I was producing beats that were selling, we had 3 artist recording with us and are on tour now because of it. Life was great, Hoot Ride was becoming known to the public and made us expand into providing the music for various events (This included me to learn the turn tables in two months, I told this bitch that I’ve been Djing for weddings for two years now. Just because I knew we could pull it off, and we needed a new microphone) We were finally at the point where we had to charge people for studio time, this caused so many fights because we were no longer doing this shit for free, Business was slow, Trav and I continued making beats for fun/practice, Conor lost ambition to keep it going, Trav didn’t take the beat making seriously Hoot Ride Records was dead. I kept making beats and writing songs in hopes to find another artist, Finally my journey was accomplished and Ryan (another long time friend) Kept hearing about the studio and how serious I was about it. I’ve never seen someone’s jaw drop and eyes shoot open so fast, we started working together, teaching each other our techniques and collaborated on a lot of music. I generally make heavy classic hip hop, with clean keys. Ryan on the other hand creates slow tempo ambient sounds and EDM. The mix was something that even made us proud of ourselves, a friend of Ryan’s was our dealer at the time who also played various instruments and was impressed by the music that was coming out of the studio. We started filming our creative process because due to illegal substances, we wouldn’t record when we should have been or simply jam all night and get nothing done. We would later than watch the footage and recreate what we could but realized how many other ideas we would come up with. I started editing the footage into a documentary, for a lack of a better term. I knew Hoot Ride was about to strike gold when we mentioned starting a clothing line, Trav and I already wanted to make our “Wash Your Taint” T-Shirt. Before I knew it Hoot Ride Entertainment was born, we were producing music for the videos we would make and were in process of writing a documentary and now were selling shirts. Trav and I originally ordered 10 shirts, just for ourselves and to give to a few friends. Once the word was out about these shirts, we couldn’t walk a block in them without being stopped and asked to take pictures, where can I buy that? Our batches couldn’t come in fast enough, they were sold out before the batch could be delivered. I was seeing this girl at the time who ended up stealing all the equipment and the money that was earned from the shirts, as soon as we started to rise, we once again fell I continued working on music and learning graphic design and slowly tried to rebuild Hoot Ride again, I was forced to leave my home and live in a co-workers basement, at this time I was taking handfuls of Addy a day to keep up with working full time and then coming home and working on Hoot Ride all night. My girlfriend at that time had been living with me for about a year, pregnant with, god knows who kid. She came home one day, neck full of hickeys and said “I’m moving in with my boyfriend and I got an abortion today” I still don’t think that sentence has sunk in yet, anyways, that sentence is the reason why I became addicted to meth. It was the only thing she hated, and in my mind it was the only way to get back at her, make her mad, I don’t know. I was living in such a depression that I was taking any drug I could get my hands on, I was mixing coke, ex, weed, speed, and any anti anxiety pills I could get from Kyle. As I sit here writing this, I cant fathom how I am still alive after that How the fuck did I work 40 hours a week without someone noticing or even mentioning anything of that nature. I simply couldn’t do it anymore, Losing my home, living in a co-workers basement, the uncertainty if my ex was carrying my child or not. Pawning my dog off on Ryan knowing for a fact that I

Anyone who thinks outside of the box.
What equipment do you use?
What’s one man’s junk is another man’s treasure- spoken like a true artist. With no more than some junk equipment and a hand-me-down guitar that’s more than once been through the ringer, one can still find gold deep beneath even the worst tarnish. Whether he’s working on awakening his latest musical Frankenstein or painstakingly editing hours of audio, video or photo data, this murdered-out protégé won’t stop until he breathes his last. Hopefully that comes before the zombie apocalypse does.
