SongForBarmak

The timelessness and unconditional love of a friendship that transcends culture, expectations, and "duty." Truly a sacred moment.
Band/artist history
Church folk groups. Street fairs. Talent shows. Restaurant bars. A handful of roles in musical theater and operetta. The usual small town opportunities. Although I began writing songs around 1973, I have rarely performed my original compositions publicly and have only begun in 2013 to share them with friends and acquaintances via the Internet. I have played a few of them at churches and other songwriter showcases.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes. I play a few times a year for special occasions. Most recently I was honored to sing at author Ann Hite's booksigning at Malaprops Books in Asheville, NC.
Your musical influences
In no particular order: Janis Ian, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Barbara Streisand, Cleo Laine, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Vaughn, Kate Wolfe, Chris Williamson, Margie Adam, Holly Near, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff, Jacques Brel, Jim Croce, Georges Moustaki, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Neil Diamond, Simon and Garfunkle, Leonard Cohen, Sweet Honey in the Rock, American musical theater, Gregorian chant, Negro spirituals...the list goes on...I am especially thankful for the influence of American singer/composer Carolyn McDade
