A producer, songwriter, musician, rapper, singer, preacher, teacher, man of God. All of these things are new gospel artist Kamal.
Kamal hails from Bloomington, Illinois, by way of Chicago. He has worked in the music industry as a secular artist for over 20 years. In 2005 he gave his life to Christ. At first, it was struggle for him to totally give up secular music and focus on his new music ministry. But after much prayer, Kamal decided to take the message of Jesus Christ from the pulpit to the masses of the unchurched hip hop generation. Even though so-called holy hip hop is under attack by many Christians, Kamal feels that it is an awesome evangelical tool to reach the young and lost. "I don't have a problem with hip hop or rap music. I have a problem with the spirit behind the music".
Kamal is currently working on his debut Double CD release "Re-Introduction/The Plan".The first disc, Re-Introduction is a mixtape of mostly rap songs that re-introduces himself not only as a rapper, but as a Christian believer. The second disc, The Plan is a jazz instrumental interpretation EP, based on the biblical plan of salvation.
I pretty gave you that in the beginning!
I play keyboards at my home church, House of Prayer Apostolic Church of God in Bloomington, Illinois. I love playing at church, especially when the anointing falls in the house!
I'm a big Prince fan. He's one of my musical influences. Others are Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Michael Jackson, Jay Z, 2Pac, Nas and many more. I love almost anything with a standout melody. That's why I like a lot of the older music, because it's rich in melodies.
I using a Dell Inspiron E1505 loaded with Reason 5 and FL Studio 10, and a Yamaha DGX-200 as a midi controller. I use Refills and downloaded WAV file samples for my sound library.
Please feel free to leave me comments on the music. I oray that something you hear touches your spirit. God bless you!
