Five Years Solitary is a one man project for now. Its something that I do to stay sharp in between the Army and family. I have hopes of putting a band together so I am always writing and recording songs.
Band/artist history
I've been playing music for a long time. I was in a band in high school called Sacred Lynch. I hit some hard times and had to leave them to join the Army. In the intervening years I got married, deployed twice, divorced and everything in between that. I've been writing and recording songs the whole time and taught myself to play the drums and sing. The majority of my songs are based on my life and tell stories about things that have actually happened to me or provoked an emotional response.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I haven't played live in about 15 years, before I joined the Army. There is nothing like it, and I would like to play live again one day. I played my first show at the Galaxy Club in Dallas, Tx when I was 17. I occasionally play acoustic versions of my songs for close friends and family and to practice.
Your musical influences
Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Jack Johnson, Cat Stevens, Many many more. I write almost everything on an acoustic guitar first, so I think its important to learn to play that well. Also helps pass the time in the warzone.
What equipment do you use?
Fender 6 string acoustic, Schecter 12, A White Epiphone 6 string electric with EMG pickups, A Sunburst pattern Epiphone Les Paul 6 string with standard Les Paul pickups, Ibanez 4 string Bass, A POD guitar effects processor, Alesis electric drum set, a variety of mics, and a Boss 1600BR recorder/CD burner. I built my collection over the course of 20 years and many, many pawnshops.
Anything else?
I hope you enjoy the music and can relate to some of my stories. Any advice is very welcome, as I just kind of noodle around until something cool comes out the other end. I'm not what you would call a professional recording artist.
