ECHOED ILLUSIONS - A band developed through struggle, pain, friendship, and trust. Once started as an acoustic project for battle of the bands, Echoed Illusions was compiled of only Matt Petrucci and Mike Howell. The band didn't last long when the group Ashteroth formed just in time for the actual show of battle of the bands at Hillcrest Highschool in January of 2007. This band included Matt Petrucci, Mike Howell, Joel Clark and Mike Lofgreen. Soon after the former name of Echoed Illusions was brought back in to use as the title for this alternative rock band. Echoed Illusions has been together as a band since December 2006 with the decrease of Mike Lofgreen as drummer and addition of Dylyn Boswell as replacement drummer. In the spring of 2009, Mike Howell left the band and Echoed Illusions added Takami Kowalski as his replacement. Soon after, Matt left to serve a religious mission. Mike then rejoined the band to take his place. Echoed Illusions just finished recording their full length album, "Beyond Then Line," which is available for purchase from any band member for $10.
Band/artist history
We have been in and out with several different band members for different reasons. We started out with a drummer in high school and it turned out that he had other plans and could not commit to our group. After a couple years with a solid group of band members, we played several shows like earlier mentioned. Then we tried the fad of having a girl member in the band to backup vocals on certain songs. We learned the hard way that that does not work. Later, we introduced a new guitarist as fellow band member, Michael Howell left temporarily for personal reasons. In fall of 2009, I left to serve a mission for my church and was replaced by Takami Kowalski. Then after several months, bassist Joel Clark and Takami Kowalski both left to serve as well. Recently, since I have returned, we have been working with just me, Michael, Dylyn Boswell, and a temporary guitarist, Collin Dyer. Momentarily, we are just trying to play shows when we have time. School tends to get in the way here and there.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We have played live several times at various local venues. It is are favorite thing and the reason we keep on going. Every show is the chance to offer to anyone willing to listen our gift and ideas tied up into our own music.
Your musical influences
I would definitely say a band that influences the entire band as a whole is Coheed & Cambria. We take from their style the musical creativity and conceptual ideas. Our lyrics are actually based on novels Michael and I are currently working on. The first selection should be available for purchase in mid-summer. We also have several other influences that we could not list, but a few would be Anberlin, Alesana, Saosin, Thrice, and many others.
What equipment do you use?
Right now, I am using a Washburn HOB guitar with a small Peavey 40-watt amp. I very often use a DeltaLab DGFX1 effects pedal. I am huge into the Dunlop .73 size pick usually yellow. Other members use Fender, Ibanez, Takamine, Epiphone, Yamaha, Schecter, Zildjian, and other equipment that I do not remember at the moment.
Anything else?
We just hope that people will listen to our music, and not just listen but reseach and find the reasons why we do this. We do not put shallow words with hollow meanings into our songs. We want everyone to know that. This music comes from our personal life experiences and we hope it connects to everyone that listens to it.
