J Dub The Prophet was born Joshua Kirt on August 24, 1984. The Michigan native was raised in Traverse City, MI by his single mother. At the age of 5, J’s mother was working two jobs to support the both of them and began dating and eventually married. J was legally adopted by his mother’s new husband and his name was changed to Joshua Williams, thus the nickname J Dub. J spent most of his teenage years growing up skateboarding, snowboarding, playing baseball, enjoying music and smoking weed. It wasn’t until his senior year of high school is a creative writing class that he began expressing himself through written word. Being a quiet person in general, he felt relief expressing himself and soon combined those words he was writing with the hip hop music he loved. For the next five years, the music J Dub was making took him to Mt. Pleasant, MI, Birmingham, AL, back to Traverse City, and then the Detroit, MI. For those five years J did a lot of maturing as well as his music. He began doing local hip hop shows and showcases throughout the Detroit metro area as well as other places throughout the state. J has been dedicated to his craft, putting in countless hours and hundreds of songs. He is hip hop. J Dub The Prophet puts the “real” in reality, and this is not television people, this is life, his life. J’s music can be related to by all, especially the modern day hippies. “It’s all about living life the best way we can, peacefully and happy. Everybody likes to have a good time, so why not do it together? Laugh, cry, vibe out, smoke out, just enjoy the music and stay medicated.”
