Jordan and I have been jamming together for nearly 4 years and are now looking to take Abolish the Echelon to the next level, and get a full band on tour so we can finally meet all of the fans that have been asking to see us jam for so long.
Abolish the Echelon began back in late 2007, when Alex Wheeler first met Jordan Rush through mutual friends. At the time they both found a common interest in metalcore bands the likes of As I Lay Dying, Trivium, and Killswitch Engage.
After jamming together for a while and becoming good friends, we decided to see if we could get some hits posting some covers of AILD songs on Youtube. And so the Youtube name ALEXSTYPES was born. Actually, I created the name long before I met Jordan in reference to my car, an Acura RSX Type-S. We posted the videos under that username having no idea that the account would eventually exceed 1,000,000 views.
Gaining some exposure on Youtube after about a year, a fan requested we cover Protest the Hero. Having not heard of the band, we were fascinated by the technicality of the music. While at first maybe we didn't care for it, or have the ability to play it, it eventually grew on us, and we covered "Bloodmeat" in May 2008.
About the same time, Protest the Hero was coming into town on the Warped Tour and was doing a signing the night before their show. We decided to head down and meet the band and just see what's up. What's up meaning ask'em if they wanted to party. And party animals they were. We proceeded to meet them on their tour bus, where inappropriate behavior by way of belligerent intoxication followed. There's actually video evidence if you search Cheese and Crackers Episode 2 on Youtube ;).
In fall 2008, Jordan ended up moving to Denver, Colorado temporarily ending the kickass jam sessions and Youtube videos. However, all was not lost. He began writing an album that would be called "The Three Reigns" - AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ON ITUNES. It was a masterpiece at the time in Jordan's short 3 year career as a guitarist. Full of technicality combined with melodity and a heavy Protest the Hero influence, the new original material became the focus of our efforts even living in different states. In Spring 2009, it had been to long; I hopped in my car and drove all 850 miles to Denver with my guitar in the back and we started jamming as soon as I got there, not stopping for the first 15 hours I was there. By the end of the week, I had learned several of the songs and we made a video for the song "Exiled". Check out these videos.
That summer I drove back to Denver again, where we recorded the rest of the videos for "The Three Reigns" as well as our first video to exceed 100,000 views, our Killswitch Engage "Starting Over" cover.

And that brings us to the here and now. In the last year, Jordan and I became fascinated with Tosin Abasi, his ridiculous multiple finger taps and odd time signatures on an 8 string guitar. Jordan couldn't resist and picked up a 7 string guitar and went to work. The result is what is written so far for the the new album. Here is the first single, *this was the first, not final recording* of this song.

Jordan is once again a resident of Arizona and now our goal is to get this album out to our over 8,000 YouTube fans and get a full band on the road. Period.
Not yet. Unless recording ourselves in the living room on putting it on YouTube is considered live. We really want to be playing shows soon though.
