Band/artist history
Orangabelle 5 was formed in May 1999 as a collaboration between journalist/lyricist Julie Johnson and musician Joshua Heinrich. They met in early 1999 when Julie did an interview with Josh about his long-time solo project, fornever. They kept in touch, and eventually Julie asked Josh to write the music to go along to some of her lyrical poetry, and Orangabelle 5 was born. In October 1999, the duo released a 6-song EP, titled "Slipping from Reality" with Joshua Heinrich on all instruments, programming, and male vocals and Julie Johnson on female vocals. The EP received extraordinary acclaim worldwide for its unique blend of eclectic industrial rhythms, moody keyboards, and processed guitars. Its hit single, "missing you", is still an independent goth staple. The next year, Orangabelle 5 released their first full-length album, fade, which expanded their sound to encompass more rock/pop influences and unique ethereal production touches. fade produced the classic ethereal triphop single "before i fall" as well as the popular singles "grains of sand" and "broken"... fade was followed by reconstructed, a 6 song EP containing remixes of songs from both of Orangabelle 5's previous releases plus one unreleased track from the fade sessions, "struggle within", that quickly reached the top of the internet goth charts. With 3 acclaimed releases under their belts, Orangabelle 5 went on a brief hiatus while Heinrich concentrated on his solo project, fornever. Then, in summer 2001, Orangabelle 5 began work on a new EP that would evolve into their 2nd full-length album, FUSE, released in April 2002. With FUSE, Heinrich reinvented Orangabelle 5, largely abandoning the industrial sound of the band's early material in favor of a new alternative rock/pop direction. The result was undeniably Orangabelle 5's best release, a diverse album of emotional rock, powerful darkwave tracks, and infectious pop riffs that pleased the band's fanbase while also appealing to a wider audience. In early 2003, Orangabelle 5 officially announced their breakup, leaving behind a strong and influential body of work. However, the breakup was amicable, and Josh and Julie are currently working on the debut EP by their new project, Black Wedding.
