I'm one crazy bastard, but I've got five personas. I write through them: Kyle S. - That's the everyday me. Someone with a lot of problems for a lot of reasons. A disgraced, disenfranchised, half-crazed punk rocker/poet, alienated by Fort Worth in general. Kylie - A highly sexualized lesbian fetishist. As tomboyish as she is feminine, as feminine as she is perverse. Myld Kyle - A childhood version of me before I began asking too many questions. An annoying (but as eccentric as the rest), God-fearing (though he curses like a sailor) post-grunge kid who hangs out in cemeteries and likes to ride his bike. Vyle Kyle - A completely amoral psychopath with anything-goes propensities toward rape, murder, torture, and about anything else that's not really a good thing. Feels like anybody he victimizes deserves it, and that it's pretty funny to do sick shit to people. Wyld Kyle - A good-natured, amiable, but decadent party animal with an absurd sense of humor. Kind of like Drop Dead Fred, except with more sex, drugs, and freakishness. A lot of the lyrical subject matter is a blend of things you would expect from the aforementioned personas. The music itself is mostly a variety of things I've done with my Casio keyboard. I like to think that my music is proof that one guy and a Casio keyboard can capably provide vicious, toxic music.Band/artist history
When I was in elementary school, my grandpa bought me a little Casio keyboard for my birthday or Christmas or something or other. I used to spend time tinkering on it, pretending that I was scoring my own imaginary horror movies, and became interested in making more lyrical songs as well. I began making a lot of homemade tapes in middle school, and continued to do so for years. Many of these tapes are now lost. Over time, I've upgraded to a larger (but still not up-to-date) Casio that originally belonged to my uncle. Almost everything I've recorded has been done on the spot, and I have very little formal knowledge when it comes to my musicianship. After converting some of my music to mp3s from the tapes I have left, I began to record directly to the computer using the program Audacity. While this has allowed me more access to various effects, I still use only my Casio for making Cinematery music, often figuring out which effects to use afterward. The only things that have really changed is that it sounds slightly better while I myself have become much nastier.Have you performed in front of an audience?I still haven't done any solo live performances. I aim to change this in the future, but I'm not sure when or where that will be possible.
Your musical influences
Anyone doing dark and/or scuzzy stuff with a minimal electronic setup has been an influence to me by that alone, and this includes Suicide especially. Other honorable mentions go to both Fad Gadget and Peaches. But a lot of my music is also very heavily influenced by hardcore punk, so there's Suicidal Tendencies (who along with Ramones, have been covered by me), the Dead Kennedys, etc. There's also Foetus, Godflesh, Ministry, etc. It's really hard for me to nail everything when it comes to influences because, aside from personal experiences/thoughts/feelings, I draw inspiration directly or indirectly, musically, thematically, or practically, from a wide variety of media. Everything from Lovecraft to LaVey to Bukowski to bondage videos finds its way in somewhere. What equipment do you use?
Casio keyboard (don't know the exact model or year). I use Audacity as a recording program. Whenever I record now, I also use a six-track mixer, though I hardly need all six tracks.Anything else?
I am or have been involved with many bands and musical projects. Cinematery is just pretty much where any solo stuff I do without a guitar goes, and as such is my most personal and prolific project.Contact
