IF YOU LIKE JETHRO TULL, RUSH, STEELEYE SPAN, MARILLION then you will probably like...
LEGEND is a five piece Progressive Rock band with strong Folk and Medieval influences with songs that are complex and epic in structure with themes that surround the folklore of the British Isles.
There are many musical touchpoints for Legend's sound comparisons are most commonly made with bands like Jethro Tull, Marillion, Steeleye Span, Clannad and Rush, even artists such as Nightwish. One 'fan' has even described us as 'Enya gang raped by Queensrhyce' so go figure!
LEGEND â The Band that time forgot.
Founded in 1988 by keyboard player / producer Steve Paine, Legend perform epic songs, that twist and turn effortlessly through a myriad of time and tempos. Mystical lyrics, delivered by soaring almost operatic female vocals and powerful melodic guitars and layered keyboard textures, held together by a tight, punchy and precise rhythm section. These are the hallmarks of Legend, an archetypical progressive / symphonic rock band. Legend are not âfashionableâ, âchicâ or âin vogueâ they are unusual and unique and they are here to stay. So if you like Rush, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Yes, Solstice, Marillion, Jethro Tull ...the list goes on... then you will probably like Legend.
Legendâs songs are woven around mystical and pagan themes, folklore and archetypal myths they are about passion â not fashion. This has led them to success in Japan and Europe, despite never really making the breakthrough in the UK. They have released 3 CD albums and a Live concert Video and after 21 years are about to release a âbest ofâ CD entitled âRitual Echoâ and re-release their concert video on DVD and for the first time on CD.
And just when you thought it was safe... Plans are afoot to record a new album in 2010... so watch out for âCardinal Pointsâ.
Legend rarely play live, though we enjoy playing live and can perform our songs without aid of a safety net, we also like to make a big production out of our gigs with lots of Lights, smoke, mirrors and pyrotechnics.
Well a lot of the obvious ones; Jethro Tull, Steeleye Span, Genesis, Rush, less obviously Loreena Mckennitt, Richard Harvey/Gryphon, The Strawbs, Fairport Convention, NWOBHM. Peter Gabriel even some of A HA's more adventurous material! So our tastes are quite diverse really.
