A brand new artist from Chicago has emerged with a style that combines catchiness and a refreshing sound as well as a lyrical ability. Ja'Lisa "Fe Chi" Hemmingway isn't just another female artist: 17 years old and going harder than most guys, much has been accomplished by this Chicago native.
Ja'Lisa Bri'Anna Hemmingway (born November 29, 1996), better known by her stage name Fe Chi (pronounced "fay shy"), is an American music recording artist, songwriter, record producer, actress, entrepreneur, and cousin of the late Rick James.
Growing up in a household filled with R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop & Rap music, it was at age 4 that Fe Chi wrote her very first song. She later went on to form mediocre music groups during her middle school years meanwhile searching for local acting gigs. However, after witnessing the murder of her father at the tender age of 10, Fe Chi turned her focus to music.
At age 12, Fe Chi earned enough money working in her aunt's candy store to buy her first microphone. It was at that point that Fe begin taking the internet by storm under her own record label. Like most artists, Fe Chi began her online career by posting songs onto popular social media platforms such as MySpace, SoundClick, Reverbnation and YouTube. By doing this, Fe Chi was able to network with other individuals, ultimately gaining a small fanbase and doing various interviews. It was also around this time that Fe Chi would meet buddy musician and classmate, Darion "Encore" Fuller.
In late 2011, Fe Chi signed with local Chicago management team, Mad Tactics Management, along with Encore. By early 2012, the two were featured on WGN News Chicago in which their musical abilities were captured in a short segment. However, Fe, along with Encore, were released from their MTM contracts shortly afterwards. By mid-2012, Fe Chi quickly began gaining a buzz on the local scene when she teamed up with Encore once again for their remix of "I Don't Like" originally by Chief Keef. The music video received over 8,000+ views in a short time period in which Chief Keef gave recognition to, as well.
In mid 2013, Fe Chi's YouTube account was hacked by Ryan "Reazy De'Nearo" Gleghorn, costing her over 110,000+ views and over 1,300+ subscribers. Despite the losses, Fe Chi looked at the incident as a "blessing in disguise". A few weeks later, Fe Chi met Brandy Norwood & Sasha Go Hard, who influenced her to reinvent herself and take a better approach. Less than a month later, Fe Chi signed with Mechanical Beats Productions after the company produced her "Runnin' Thangs" single. While under contract, Fe "allegedly" received airplay and even performed in a holiday school tour. Unfortunately, things came to an end in February of 2014 when Fe left MBP due to "unfulfilled duties", but still remains on friendly terms with CEO.
It wasn't until 2014 that Fe Chi began succeeding in the music industry as an independent female artist. Since leaving MBP, Fe Chi has won 1st place in talent showcases, interviewed nominees at the 2014 Chicago Music Awards, performed live on the Elma & Company show on channel 19, and has done a variety of interviews and shows including her most recent one in which she opened up for Atlantic Record's recording artist, Bop King D Low.
Currently, Fe Chi is promoting her new realease, "Almost Famous". Much more is expected to come for this multitalented teen.
You already know! Aha. I'm ALWAYS nervous before a show, but when I actually get on stage -- aw yeah, it's over with. Lol
Soulja Boy and Eve are definitely my top influences. Had I not been exposed to Soulja's grind (going from a normal 16 year old with a computer to a millionaire), I probably wouldn't be where I am. As for Eve, I love her attitude. She has a strong demeanor, but will never let you forget she's still a lady. Aside from that, I've always been a BIG fan of 50 Cent, 2Pac, Eve, Lauryn Hill, Lil Mama, Missy Elliot & Aaliyah. Soulja & Aaliyah both made it clear that you should have fun and love what you do, if you're going to wake up and do it.
