The Cassette Years (Vol.1)
All of these tracks were originally recorded on cassette. Some were less complete than these versions, some are nearly exactly the same. All were originally recorded between ages 16 and 17. Most of the cassette years songs are now lost to my memory.

Garbage Theme
Based off of Garbage Band's first cassette album. The lyrics were the same -- except for the part about being buried. There was a three note riff, close to this. The original was untracked just two guys banging guitars.

Skateboard Baby
Wrote this one on piano and guitar at age 17. It was on our third album. It didn't sound like this, because I couldn't play very well at the time, and -- more importantly -- we couldn't track. Had to choose. Did it once guitar, then piano.

I am the Wolfman
Was there a cooler classic monster than the Wolfman? We loved him. There were 2 songs on the first cassette Steve and I made about the wolfman. Backing wolf howls courtesy https://www.zapsplat.com/

Keep Driving, Mac!
When I was about 9 or 10 years old, my neighbour Phil, my sister Les, and I made a basement band. Les played the pails and buckets. I played a hockey stick with a nylon string, and Phil played a plastic wind up guitar.

Living in Luxembourg
This song was off of Steve and my fifth album, which was -- for reasons I forget -- entitled "Foot Fungus". Steve was 50% the writer of this, so if he stumbles on this page and wants his name credited, I will be very, very happy to oblige.

Walla-Gunda-Bang-Bang
Um, well, I wrote it when I was 16 or 17. Kind of hard to describe, actually....

Echo
There were 3 songs on our sixth cassette album that involved a LOFI echo technique. This was one. The lyrics from the original are all included, but some extra have been added.

Priscilla Andrews
This was a song off of the very first cassette album of the Garbage Band. It's very different from the original, but the tune is the same and as many of the original lyrics as I can remember I included. Read the story on the lyrics page. (9-2-06 )

Your Crimson Kiss
The original guitar for this I remember perfectly, but I had to alter it to make the song work. I tried to keep it 'as was' but it didn't work. Sigh.

Gentle LIttle Song
This is a horrible song. It was written on keyboard, which I really should NOT do. It was written when I was 16, and I really should forget it. BUT it is one of those songs with a melody I can't forget! Sigh. It features a sour note and added verse.

Dinner at the Ritz
I wrote this when I was 17. The original was done with multiple cassette tape tracks played open mic. The percussion was done with knives on the original. They are used for background percussion on this recording.

1928 Car
I wrote this song with my musical buddy Stephen MacKay 50 years ago. *Car horn from zapsplat.com*. We would have loved to have included that in the original! This was off our fifth cassette album.

Race Driver
This song, in a much simpler form, was on our second cassette album. Crash sound effect from ZapSplat (https://www.zapsplat.com/)

Girl you were so Young
One of the many love songs I wrote in my teens. These sorts of songs used to drive Steve up the wall -- so saccharine sweet , but I was always a hopeless romantic.

It Wasn't a Meteor
What I tried to do here I could not do, but I came close! I wanted to recreate a track recorded with harmonica, cowbells, guitar, and wind. It was on Garbage Band's 2nd album, entitled 'Garbage Eater.' (Cowbells from www.zapsplat.com)

Toilet Symphony
The elements here are as close as I can get them to the original. Three things: native chanting, speeded and reverse orchestra, and strange electronic sounds -- the originals were recorded at the Science Centre in Toronto, these I generated.
