ARCTURUS -
Northwest native, ARCTURUS has been grinding in the rap game for ten plus years with a unique approach to both music and marketing. His love for Hip-Hop began in the mid 80s' as a B-boy and graf artist and quickly grew to cover all aspects of Hip-Hop. ARCTURUS is an MC as well as a producer with well over twenty projects under his belt. Though many of the aspects of Mad Ro have changed, ARCTURUS has remained the constant. His music expresses true to life situations with a refreshing outlook that differs from the ever growing fad of violence in rap. ARCTURUS aka Billy Dangerous is a true underground head with true skills who refuses to sell himself short. Expect big things from him on the new Mad Ro release "The Foul Stench of Something Good" and his debut solo release "Supa-Ida-Formulistik-Gudda-Spit-Ferocious".Band/artist history
Mad Ro' members Arcturus, LC and Hacim are bursting at the seams with creative genius. It could be the effects of the crisp air or the abundance of trees that the Pacific Northwest is famous for, but these lyrical Boise battlecats are proving that what is inside them far surpasses the influence of their surroundings. Each man brings his own dimension of character to the table, along with a deep appreciation for the cultural diversity that exemplifies Hip Hop art.
Northwest native Arcturus was introduced to Hip Hop through b-boying. He began writing rhymes in the third grade, and experimented with deejaying as well. Arcturus began making beats, and soon he was self-reliant in his musical repertoire. Unlike many modern-day emcees, he does not write his rhymes down. "If they mean anything I will always remember them later," he explains.
Born in Los Angeles, Hacim's family relocated to Boise, Idaho when he was twelve. His cousin J-Ro of Tha Alkaholiks was an influential person in his life, helping to expose Hacim to a wide variety of Hip Hop music. Also an avid graphic design artist, he built Mad Ro's website and masterfully designs all of the graphics for the group's business dealings.
A year after Hacim moved to Boise, he and Arcturus sparked a friendship that rendered artistic virtuosity. They began writing songs together and formed the group Mad Riddla, later changing the name to Mad Ro. In 1998 they met former group member Ready and the eager emcees set out to combine their talent.
They released their first album Nocturnal in 1999, and received attention from Elektra and Interscope after their single "Me And You" was a huge hit on MP3 websites. Instead of grabbing for the major label deals, the men of Mad Ro opted to stay true to their independent instincts and signed with Seattle-based label, Noc On Wood Records. Their 2002 album Out The Wood Werk was the culmination of their various backgrounds and experiences, and garnered them spins on radio stations across the country.
LC joined the group recently after Ready moved on to do some solo work. At a young age he heard his first Hip Hop song, and began scratching on his grandmother's turntable. His love for the entire culture was instantaneous, and soon he began making beats and writing rhymes. LC was highly inspired by Dr. Dre and the Beastie Boys, and cites that battle emcees are his favorite to listen to, although he doesn't necessarily inundate himself with a lot of outside influences. "I really don't pay attention to a lot of rap right now, I mostly focus on what goes on in my own scene. In Boise there are a lot of rappers - we've just got our own little scene and I block the rest of the world out," he says.
The musical chemistry between the three men is natural and makes for a razor sharp edge that Mad Ro needed to move to the next level. Years of constant change have only strengthened their musical prowess. They have nurtured Hip Hop in the face of unique challenges, and are finally getting the opportunity to let their expressions flow.Have you performed in front of an audience?New York, L.A., Miami, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Reno, Salt Lake City, Denver, Boise, Seattle, Portland, Vancover B.C., etc.
