The Aquamaroon emerged from the primordial sea of acid rock, blues, funk and fusion jams. Grant's complex rhythms together with Charley's dynamic guitar riffs and Rob's throbbing bass lines form the core of the band. Originally an instrumental project, The Aquamaroon evolved into a tight mix of acid blues rock and funk with the addition of world renowned vocalist Brooks Hunnicutt. Brooks is a vocal legend who has toured and recorded with Stephen Stills, Rod Stewart, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine and Helen Reddy. She has a unique rich vocal quality that is a perfect match for The Aquamaroon style. Lori provides the background texture with rich vocals and tight percussion. The Aquamaroon is the best of both worlds, rich and complex vocal content together with a hard rocking band.
Band/artist history
Brooks Hunnicutt Brooks is a powerful singer who sang professionally both in the studio, in her own bands with her own recording contracts, and on tour with various artists from Rod Stewart and Stephen Stills to Kenny Rogers and Molly Hatchet in Los Angeles. She also toured with many artists and played such venues as the Las Vegas and Tahoe, as well as touring Europe with many artists including Helen Reddy with whom she participated in a Royal Command Performance for Queen Elizabeth in Sidney Australia. She was a member of a black church in Watts for 9 years, so that might give you some idea about the power of her voice. This site contains only Aquamaroon music, but for more songs from Brooks, see http://www.myspace.com/brookshunnicutt. Grant Dawson Ohio native drummer Grant Dawson emerged on the Atlanta scene in 1984 with local punk legends Liers In Wait. In time, he became the primary musical composer for the band utilizing heavy applications of keyboards and early sequencing technology. After acquiring enough popularity to play 1994's Atlanta Pot Festival to a crowd of 30,000, the band transformed into Empire 44, who went on to tour as a supporting act for The Genitorturers, KMFDM, Christian Death, Drill and The Electric Hellfire Club [Grant composed the track 7th Angel from EHC's Calling Dr. Luv recording]. By 2002, fate landed one of Grant's recorded drum loops into the hands of rap artist Ludacris. In 2003, he completed a U.S. tour with British space rock legend Nik Turner of Hawkwind. 2004 saw the birth of Grant's ongoing solo recording project Sexmusic. Grant is frequently employed for studio projects as a drummer and songwriter and has worked with Jesus Presley, Side Seat Driver, Radio Orphans, Nebulous Music, Ltd., Jeniphoria, Donn Aaron, Dena Karman, Spaceseed, Allen Law, Scarecrow, Thunder Monkey, X2III, Ozlo and many others. Rob Fisher Rob Fisher began his foray into rock music in the early 90s with prog rockers Quietus, the legendary rap and roll act Vertical Leap and New Hampshire superstars Choosy Moms Funky Dance Carnival. His achievements with Choosy Moms landed him at the legendary CBGB's club in New York City. Rob and Grant met up while performing with Cleveland sensations The Hitchcocks, where the two unknowingly began the tight rhythm section which is the foundation of Aquamaroon. Rob's commanding presence, high tenor vocals and earth-rumbling bass make this musical savant a worthy candidate for a diverse band. Charley Hughes Charley grew up in Miami, FL and has been influenced by that diverse musical landscape ever since. A blues, rock, funk and fusion guitarist, he uses elements of all these styles in whatever genre he plays. Although he played in many bands in the early years, including the Vincent Moody Group and Seizmo, the years after school turned into the dark ages for musical expression. He kept the flame alive by learning the styles of contemporary guitarists of the time. Now emerging from the darkness he is making up for lost time in The Aquamaroon. Lori Jenkins Lori was the premier lead vocalist for Rockdale legends Mune from 1995 to 1997, who featured a swirling miasma of psychedelic overtones on a bed of primordial beats and rhythms. Her success lead her on to an improvisational performance with Jason Herring's SysEx which was featured on the CD The Era Of The Stars. Lori went on the be the backing vocalist for The Reverened Biff Spooky and was featured on the hit Thing 4 U. Lori's alto vocals and mastery of a number of percussion instruments makes her a welcome addition to Aquamaroon.
