Band/artist history
The band was formed by Ryan Early (vocals/guitar) and Nicole Sestito (drums) under the moniker Hollow Point in the summer of 2002 as a stupid way to fuck around and write music. As the summer months came to a close, John DeAngelo (guitar) was drafted into the band, and a song entitled "Point of Contact" was written. The name was later changed to "Dressed in Black".
By the beginning of the new year, the band had recruited a second guitarist, Danielle Gambardella, to fill Ryan's spot at guitar. Within several months, three new songs had been written, "Pledge Your Allegiance", "Sin America", and "Anything to Belong", and the band named had been changed to Corporal Downfall.
In the final months of winter, Ryan and John got together to record a simple demo with a drum machine and one or two guitar tracks. This became the infamous Black Winter demo.
As spring and summer passed, we changed our name (once more) to Necrosis and welcomed Jaime Pompilli (keyboards) and Madison Roseberry (bass) into the family. Two more songs were written, "Society is the Enemy" and "Bloodlust". On August 16, 2003, in front of a crowd of friends and family, Necrosis played their first show at what was nicknamed "Earlfest" along with local alternative rock band All Undone. Unfortunately, the set was rained just three songs short of the end.
After a lengthy break because of emotional problems by Ryan, the band reassembled with new bassist Dave Guckian. November 1st marked the first real show for Necrosis, at the Polish National Alliance in Wallingford, CT. Other bands on the bill included Clearlight Industries, Inertia Inc., Antoine Terrance and Leonard, Sexy Phil, and Farewood. We played a full set with pretty much every song we knew how to play.
Shit hit the fan following the show, and Nicole and Dave immediately quit due to tensions with Ryan. The following weekend, we played a party, which marked Jaime's final excursion with the band.
From that point until the beginning of 2004, Necrosis lie dormant. We lacked the will or personel to continue the way we saw fit. At the turn of the new year, Ryan, John, and Danielle decided to continue with the band in a new direction. The name was changed a final time, to Apostasy. A new song, "Cataclysm Theory", was written, and plans for an album were set.
In the beginning of February, bassist Zach Green was recruited into the band. Apostasy debuted at a hosted show on March 13, 2004 entitled "Rebfest" in John's basement. For the first time, it featured a full light show provided by Rob Spalding. It was extremely intense, yet the sound was a bit overwhelming.
In the next few months, the band would concentrate on writing some new material, and in the month of June, played two shows. The first, on the 12th, was our first real show with Apostasy. We played a 30 minute set at the Thorton Wilder Hall in Hamden, CT opening for The Teles, Angleworm, All Undone, Mindfield, and Outlet. The second, on the 26th, was a hosted show called "Speedfest" where we played our most brutal show to date. Fortunately, it was the last performance for the drum machine.
August 2004 began what would be the most stressful time for the band. In the closing weeks of July, we had been offered a record deal for our upcoming album through Statue Records of California. This came as a bit of a surprise, considering we were expecting to have to pursue a deal, and not for some time. After re-auditioning Nicole from the Necrosis days, we decided to go with Brett Pieper, a promising drummer from Wallingford. Recording for the album officially began on August 17th and is still undergoing. We have just signed on former crew member Rob Spalding as the all-important "sixth member" of Apostasy. He will handle all sampling and keyboard duties now that we will no longer be able to dub them over the drum recording.
